An Open Letter To My College Roomie
Anthony Minchella

As I look back on my previous three years of college, I realize many things have come and gone: crushes, alcohol preferences, and shirts I've let friends borrow. But one thing has remained a constant: my roommate.

It was you who walked into house parties with me freshman year, and it will be you who walks off campus with me in caps and gowns. Not too many people are lucky enough to live with the same person all four years, and I know my lack of sentiment hasn't always showed you how grateful I am.

So, thank you.

Thank you for not questioning my questionable decisions until I'm ready to talk about them. Thank you for being my left-side, strong-side when my heels are too high and the bar is too far from home. Thank you for always, always, always letting me complain to you, even if you're not in the mood to hear it. Thank you for telling me you understand, and trying to understand when you don't. Thank you for making me eggs in the morning when you can't sleep in, and brewing my coffee when I'm running late. Thank you for driving me around and picking me up from work when I didn't have a car. Thank you for saving me from the occasional overly talkative guy at the bar, and giving your approval with the rarer interested/cute one.

If I thanked you for everything you have done for me, I'd be thanking you forever. So, thank you for being you.

It is hard to even think about moving into an apartment without you in the room next to mine, coming over every three minutes before I go out asking if "this outfit makes [you] look fat." (No.) Honestly, I think I might even miss that ...

Until then, I will enjoy every day we live under the same roof with limited responsibilities and limited food in the fridge.

I'm forever indebted to our university for introducing me to the sister I never had.

LYLAS, XOXO

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
