Dear Homies,
I miss you more and more every school year. The odds that we were to meet were very slim, yet by some small chance, our parents decided to send us to the same summer camp. Even though you live all over the world (and I rarely see you because travel is expensive), you still remain my closest friends.
We became friends when we were young and rambunctious—so rambunctious that our counselors regularly wanted to call it quits. We banned together over the idea that no one could stop us. You remained my friends during the awkward and angsty summers between years of middle school, when the cool thing to do at camp was Kool-Aid dye your hair and make friendship bracelets for your thousands of summer-crushes. Together, we grew up and learned that spending time with each other at camp, huddled around a fire, was far better than spending hours at home, huddled around a TV.
Now, we are adults facing adult problems in an adult world. With every year, there are new tasks to be completed and more work to be done. Between school, employment, bills, events, etc., it is easy to become stressed, overwhelmed and disheartened. However, I can always count on you to brighten my day or give me sage advice, no matter the distance. Even when our time zones vary and our schedules conflict, all I have to do is reminisce on summers passed and I know that you're out there believing in me. I want you to know that you can say the same about me. No matter how long the span is without communication or how far the distance, I want you to know that I am always here for you. If something is troubling you, if you have to make a big decision, if you feel at a loss, just know that I'm always having a good thought for you.
Looking forward, I cannot wait to see what life has in store for each and every one of you. I know with all of my heart that you all will do such great things, because I've seen first-hand the confidence, drive and optimism, that you display every summer at camp. For those of you who return this summer, I can't wait to tackle you to the ground and embark on this summer's adventures. For those who are unable to return to camp, I know that with whatever you'll be doing, you'll be doing it with gusto and I can't wait to catch up with you sometime soon.
Summers with you are summers I'll never forget. Thank you all for being such a positive force in my life.
Love,
Your camp homie
