So, here we are, you have a broken heart and it truly sucks. If there could ever be a thing to unite all of humanity together, it would be heartbreak. I say that to say that you are not alone, although I know you feel like you are. I'm here for you; so let's get a pint of your favorite ice ream or gelato and talk.
People will tell you to get over it and I really do think they mean well, but that's not what you want to hear at this moment. I say go ahead and cry your eyes out. I am a firm believer that it is okay to express and deal with your emotions. Whoever told you that strong people don't cry should be punched in the face because that's a total lie. People are so afraid of emotion and I kind of think that's funny because that is what makes us human. So here I am to say that you can cry.
I think it's safe to say that it's over if you're broken-hearted, well at least for now. If you are just having an argument I'm sure your heart is not in bad shape. If you are in fact torn up inside I'm sure you've come to the realization that it is probably not going to work out for your relationship. I can honestly say that last time I felt like my heart was ripped was only a few months ago.
I really tried to make things work, I REALLY tried. I changed my interests a bit, I wanted to become more cool and fun to be around. I worried about what I wore and how I acted when they were near. It wasn't easy tying to make myself the perfect person, but I didn't care because in my mind, love conquers all, right? Sadly, that's only true when the feeling is mutual. I had no plan of having strong feelings for this person, but it just kind of happened, which I think is common. I feel that it's very easy to become attracted to a person that you have a lot in common with, and I had surely fallen into that trap. It's hard to not fall for a person who listens to you, knows your humor, lends a shoulder for you to cry on, and accepts you through good and bad. I'm the kind of person that is sure of what he wants, so when I decided I wanted to try to take our friendship to the next level, I thought it could work. But, of course, life happens and sometimes we have to accept when our friends want to stay friends and not advance exclusively.
Can we just take a moment and be honest? I shed a lot of tears. For days-- okay, like a few weeks. I've had my fair share of relationships so this wasn't new to me, but it was the first time in a long time where I felt like I had something real, something that could last - but foolish me, right? I was out with a bunch of friends and this conversation I had was over text. After it set in that this was happening I just politely stepped outside. So there I was, in the parking lot of Buffalo Wild Wings on a Wednesday night, crying to my best friend on the phone. At that particular point I felt like life was crashing down. And, of course, I tried walking in like a champ after I was done, as if I didn't just spend the last half hour sobbing into a napkin. The following days and weeks were hard to get through, but I did it. I do believe that in anything we do, we just have to take it one step at a time. Though I didn't want to, I surrounded myself with friends. In the rough times it's easy to be selfish and think you're alone and neglected, but we both know that's not true. We are all here because people have loved us beyond measure when we weren't easy to love. I cant thank my friends enough for supporting me through all the tears and sad songs and the excess of comfort food.
I tell you a bit of my story to tell you that I really have been there too but I have good news - life goes on. I know that at this moment that doesn't sound the most pleasant, but it should be a shining light in a dark room. Nothing lasts forever, not even our troubles. Sometimes we encounter a person in our lifetime who lights a fire in us that can't be put out, but we must learn that more often that not, we are not meant to spend our lives with them. And guess what, that's okay! If there is one thing I've learned, it's that I have to love myself, and so do you. You have to remember that this life is yours, and you can't spend your foreseeable future being angry, bitter, or always on the verge of tears. If you look around you, really look around you, you'll see that you have friends who actually care about you.
You are alive and well and out in this world forging your path for an illustrious future. When you sit and think about all of the different aspects of your life, you'll quickly realize just how blessed you are to be exactly where you are at this very moment. Think of all the setbacks you've had to work around to get to this point in your life. You are a strong individual with a strong heart. There are so many people in this world who are afraid to love and will lead the most lonely life but not you. You decided that you would take a chance on love, better yet, take a chance on yourself. That's noble and brave - there are many people who won't do that in this lifetime.
It's okay that you're broken-hearted but do realize there is much more to life than trying to find the perfect partner. You have so much life and love ahead of you it's unfathomable just how much happiness you will experience on your coming days. I promise that when the time is right, there will be someone who will see you - truly see you for the beautiful person that you are. You won't have to change your hair, or watch your weight. or change your interests because there will be someone in love with you for exactly for who you are. Until then, get back on your feet and enjoy all the gifts that life has to offer. You can't lay in bed and wallow in your misery. I'm sure by this point your pint is almost gone so stand tall and dust yourself and go look in the mirror and tell yourself it's going to be okay. There is life after heartbreak, I can promise you that. You were put on this Earth to go out and conquer and be a force of good in this world. If anything, you can use your tears today as a testimony for someone else tomorrow. I'll send you off with a favorite quote of mine, "The best time for new beginnings, is now!"
