For the past few years, your clothing line has been trending in the young adult fashion world. I’ve been to your store in person and your website plenty of times, and it’s not hard to see why everyone likes your pieces. Each item has a comfy, classy yet effortless appeal to it, and your prices are affordable.
However, there is one aspect of your company that continuously disgusts me, and I just cannot see past it. It appears in four words: One Size Fits Most. In today’s society, I find it unfathomable that your company can thrive off of making clothing that is geared towards extra small humans. If you were to ask any girl that has shopped at your store, I can guarantee you that they would agree that your items are NOT, in fact, likely to fit most people. Instead, they fit a very small percentage of society.
Your company is inadvertently promoting body shaming in our generation. Imagine if you walk into a store that advertises itself as selling clothing that fits most, and barely any of the pieces fit. Not to mention, the clothes are cute! The feeling is indescribable. The truth is, most of the items that you sell would not even fit the average girl. Just because the clothes do not fit, does not mean that the patron is “fat” at all.
After shopping in your store, I have seen other stores follow the trend that you have begun. Now, American Eagle even has a line of clothing that is “One Size.” This has saddened me because I had always viewed American Eagle to be a brand that caters to all body types, but now they are following your lead.
In what world would one size fit most people? Each person is built differently, with different curves, different hips, different busts, etc. I find it impossible to comprehend how one pair of jeans could fit every girl. Not only are you losing customers like myself by only selling “one size,” you are encouraging the current trend of obsessing over our bodies.
