An Open Letter To My Boyfriend's Little Sister

Thanks for being the little sister I never had.

An Open Letter To My Boyfriend's Little Sister
Bobby Burton

I have the world's best older sister - hands down. She's one of my biggest role models and even to this day I hope I can be just like her. That's why I have always wanted a little sister. I wanted to love someone unconditionally, teach her everything I know and be there for her whenever she needed it, just like my sister was for me. Luckily I fell in love with my best friend and, by doing that, I finally got the little sister I have always wanted.

The first time I came to your house, I was honestly petrified. I was terrified that your parents wouldn't like me or you wouldn't accept me. But thanks to you, I have never felt more comfortable in such an awkward situation. You filled that evening with countless laughs and have continued to fill my life with as much joy as you did that very first night.

So I just want to thank you. Thank you for allowing me to love your older brother. I know it's hard watching someone else love your first best friend and your partner in crime but I promise you will always be his number one girl. I am so thankful you've allowed me to be a part of his life and yours too, because honestly I would be lost without you and your family.

Thank you for sharing your clothes and discussing "The Bachelor" with me. Thank you for making meeting your extended family less stressful. Thank you for cuddling in bed with me when your brother fell asleep, or reminding me just how much he loves me. Thank you for always being just one phone call or text away when I needed someone to talk to. Honestly, I can't thank you enough for all that you have done for me.

Over the last two years, I have watched you grow into a beautiful (both inside and out), talented and intelligent young woman, and I am honored to be a part of your life. You continue to amaze me with your grace, charisma and drive each and every day. As you continue to grow, I pray that you find someone that makes you just as happy as your brother does for me.

I hope you don't mind me calling you "my little sister," because that's exactly what you are to me. I hope to be a role model in your life, if you would have me. I want you to know that I will continue to love you unconditionally, try to teach you as much as I can and guide you in whatever direction you want to go in life. I promise I will never let anyone hurt you (and if they do, I will probably have to beat them up). I refuse to watch you settle for anything less than the best, because you deserve nothing less. I will always be here for you no matter what.

I am so thankful for the countless memories and inside jokes we share. I am grateful for all the love and support you have shown me over the years and will continue to return it all back to you. I am so proud of who you have become and am honored to have a "little sister" like you.

So thank you for being the best little sister I never had.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
