An Open Letter to My Boyfriend On His Birthday

Dear Zach,

So let me start by first saying I know that this is the week after your birthday but inspiration struck a little late and I know you're probably not surprised by that. Writing this post makes me feel like the meme of the guy standing at the podium. Lol.

But anyways, I'm going to start with a great big Happy Birthday! This marks the third birthday I've gotten to celebrate with you and I consider myself blessed for getting the chance to celebrate a day that's all about you, my love, my best friend. Now I honestly don't know where to begin. There are so many things to say when it comes to all that makes you wonderful.

Over these past three years, I've gotten to know you better than I even know myself and I love that. I love that you watch anime and that you read books and that you're the kind of person who has an open and imaginative world view. This is going to sound corny but to quote Emily Bronte, "he's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same." I've never had the pleasure of having so much in common with another person before. We both go crazy for new books, we're a couple of the biggest geeks we know, we both have our gaming habits, and the list could go on for days and days.

I want to thank you for being and always being my biggest support system while I've been in school. You've been by my side since I was a sophomore so you've seen all of my highs and lows while I've been working towards my degree and you've always known what to say in every situation. I couldn't have made it this far without you and I just want to thank you so much for that.

Next I want to tell you just how proud I am of you! You work so hard at your job and you impress me every day. I know it was a difficult transition at first into this new job but you have done so amazingly and I hope you know that. You work your tail off at every job you're given and everyone sees that. I've never someone with such a strong work ethic. I strive everyday to model my own work ethic after yours.

You've showed me so much about life over the past three years and I could never say thank you enough for those lessons. You've taught me how to enjoy the little things in life. You've taught me how to trust with my whole heart and how to be trusted back. You've taught me that its okay to step back and take a breath when I'm getting overwhelmed. And you've taught me how to love myself.

Thank you for being the amazing man that you are and thank you for letting me be the one who gets to celebrate your birthday's with you! I love you so much Zachery James. Happy Birthday!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
