An Open Letter To My Best Bro

You're the broiest of them all, bro.

An Open Letter To My Best Bro
Remcy Boadih

Sup, brah?

We’ve known each other for about four years now, so I thought that now was a good time to let you, and everyone else, know how good of a bro you’ve been to me. I don’t think I could tell you enough how much you mean to me and thank you for how much you’ve done for me. So here it goes:

Thank you for making my boarding school experience easygoing from the start.

I don’t think you knew how terrified I was to meet my roommate when I got to the The Academy. I thought I was going to get someone who was the total opposite of me and someone who would hate me. When I saw you sitting at your desk I thought to myself “alright, be cool.” and said “hey.” When your response was to fly back in your chair, almost falling out, and say “OMG you almost scared the POOP outta me! Hey, I’m Bugs!” I knew that it was gonna be a good year.

Thank you for teaching me how to longboard.

For you to lend me your longboard whenever I wanted to use it to practice was already a “whoa” moment for me. But thanks to you, I saved up and got my own longboard so I could board at home and board with you whenever you're around. I even taught my nephews and suitemates how to longboard and they board with me now, and I couldn’t have done that without you teaching me how to board to begin with. So thank you for that, bro.

Thank you for accepting my weirdness and often joining in on it.

One of my biggest fears is having to spend a lot of time with someone who isn’t on my level of “weirdness.” This scares me because if someone thinks I’m just plain bizarre, things get awkward. But you didn’t think I was plain bizarre. If anything, you’re weirder than me - but I love that about you. So thank you for being just plain bizarre and letting me be bizarre with you.

Thank you for hugging me and letting me cry when I needed to.

You know me, I’m an emotional hot mess. But you never got annoyed with my crying and you were always there to give me a hug when I needed it the most, so thank you for that. I’m pretty sure I improved my hugging technique because of you too, so thanks, brah.

Thank you for driving wicked long distances to come visit me.

With you living in Connecticut and me being from Rhode Island, that’s already a drive too far for me (you know Rhode Islanders: Anything farther than 20 minutes is too far). Plus, with my parents not liking me driving long distances, I didn’t think I’d ever get to see you. But the distance never stopped you. I remember one time you drove an hour from New London to come and get me, then we drove an hour to Pettaquamscutt to teach me how to surf. Even when realizing that Pettaquamscutt is 20 minutes away from New London, you still made the drive just so we could hang, and I’m so thankful for that, bro.

Thank you for laughing at my antics.

I honestly just wanted to thank you on this one for having such a good sense of humor when it comes to the crazy ish that I do. We’ve had a lot of good laughs about everything from “Linden” to foot cramps and I’m thankful that I have someone who I can laugh about stuff like that with.

Thank you for overall wreaking havoc with me.

You’re basically my partner in crime, as we always tear stuff up when we’re together, and I couldn’t thank you enough for that. You’re the bro-est of the bros, and I’m glad that you’re my bro.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
