Towson's Most Underrated Bar

An Open Letter To B-Lounge

Dearest B-Lounge,

While many upperclassmen tend to say your name with disgust, I think they often forget that you were probably their first taste of uptown Towson. As I enter the world of an of-age upperclassmen, I would like to thank B-Lounge for being a crucial part of my Towson experience.

Thank you for letting me dance on the speakers, even though I looked like an idiot.
Drunk girls + elevated surfaces = bad idea. Not only do we look like typical basic b*tches, but most girls who dare to step onto the infamous B-lounge speakers have probably had too much to drink and end up falling off. But hey, thank you for never judging and letting me do it anyway.

Thank you for leading me to my first (and second ... and third ...) college hookup.
Seriously, what a self-esteem booster. Walking into B-Lounge for the first time was like a stereotypical college set-up with people grinding and making out in every corner. Every girl could expect to get hit on at least three times. Thank you for the confidence boost.

Thank you for being so tiny and cramped that it was never too hard to find my friends.
I’m a wanderer. I like to take laps by myself and scout out who’s here. My friends want to kill me for it. Thank you for being pretty small, compared to other Towson bars, and making it easy for me to locate my friends (or for them to find me, I’m not really sure).

Thank you for the drunk Instagrams with the Buddha.
The first time I broke 100 likes on Instagram, I was standing against the big Buddha wall near the bathrooms. I have you to thank for that, B-Lounge. I also know that when I wake up in the morning, half my Insta feed will be full of girls sitting on the golden Buddha with the caption “Namaste."

Thank you for always being an option.
If cops are all over the uptown area, I know I’ll most likely be safe at the one and only. If the other bars are dead, I’m sure there’s a bunch of drunk, horny college students grinding at B-Lounge. And lastly, thanks for always letting me in.

Thank you for always being 1,000 degrees when it’s -10 degrees outside.
By now, if I know I’m going to B-Lounge, I should probably not spend so much effort on my hair and makeup since I know I’ll sweat it off anyway. But hey, because of the limited space and hundreds of college kids, I have an excuse to wear shorts in the winter, so thank you.

Thank you for the new friendships that formed while waiting in line for the bathroom.
I can’t even begin to count how many friendships have began in the infamous B-Lounge bathroom. Granted, they may only last one night, but we sure had some great memories. Complaining about how the other girls are taking too long, banging on the doors, cramming five girls into one stall and complimenting each other’s outfits. Gooooood times.

Thank you for reminding me that I should explore my options.
When I see the guy I hooked up with last weekend hooking up with someone else, I remember that I should be exploring my options. Yeah, maybe I was obsessed with him for a hot sec, but he probably sucks anyway. After all, he’s not boyfriend material if he’s an avid B-Lounge attendee (no offense).

Thank you for being located right near Troy’s Hot Dog stand so I can dash there quickly after last call.
Thank you for being located so close that my friends and I can run (well, as fast as you can run in wedges) to spend $2 on a good ol’ American and satisfy my munchies. Although hot dogs repulse me, they seem far less gross when I’m drinking.

Thank you for some of my fondest college memories.
As gross and raunchy as you are, I have had some of my favorite college memories at B-Lounge. Thanks for being there when I finally gathered the confidence to talk to the guy in one of my classes when he ended up buying me drinks. Thanks for the time my best friend projectile vomited tequila in your sink. Thanks for being my best friend from out-of-town’s first bar and for the time you played the "Cotton-Eyed Joe."

Everyone needs a classic B-Lounge night every once and a while. Thanks for being the place we love to hate and hate to love.

See you soon!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
