Dear anybody who can smell,
I am extremely jealous of you.
As an anosmic, or someone with no sense of smell, I don't experience life or the world around me as you would. All the time I get "Oh that must be nice!" or "I wish I didn't have to smell!", but let me tell you, not being able to smell is not a blessing or an advantage.
Countless times I have gone into Bath and Body Works, Victoria's Secret, etc, and have cried because I don't know what any of these, probably wonderful smelling, objects and perfumes smell like. I've cried after asking an employee to help me pick out a fragrance because they thought I was sick and that was the reason behind me asking.
I don't know what my hometown smells like, that supposedly salty and marsh smelling air. I have no idea what my favorite food in the world smells like or what a new car smells like. But you do, you know what everything smells like, and I can not even begin to explain how much I envy this simple sense that you take for granted each day.
