Dear Respected Strangers,
You do not know us and you do not know where we come from, but we are the Freshmen. While you have limited time left, we will be here for the next four years. We are no longer the big fish in a small pond but now we are the tiny fish thrown into the ocean, without our mommy and daddy fish. Therefore, we will interrogate you in the short time we will be together. You will become our mentors, even though some of you are already resenting the next class for impeding on your space. We already know we will have some stuff to apologize for, so here we go.
Firstly, we know that we have been shown where our classes are, but occasionally we might need help. Our sense of direction is probably not the best and the only time we have ever had to look at a map was the one time in driver’s education. Some of us might make it look like we know where we are going when we are actually just walking in awkward polygons hopefully finding someone to help guide us like a guardian angel.
Secondly, we know that you have already been in our situation, therefore you become an almighty being that could bring expertise to the table. Be prepared to be hounded about your past years at college. We need to know: what professors you want, who to stay away from, some easy classes, if there are any easy classes, how to cry it out, where to get the best food, and what to do when you cannot stand your roommate. There are a million and a half more questions that we will ask, these are just the basics.
Lastly, we know we will be annoying, but we also know you will learn to love us. This may be what we are most apologetic about. We will become friends, and you will leave. After the wisdom, help, and motivation you have taught us- you will leave. You will graduate and move on, get a career or start the next school. The relationship that we have grown like a rehabilitated plant, will be rooted and off to find a new home. Hopefully, we will remain friends.
So, sorry for this list and the obnoxious million trillion things that we will also do. More importantly, thank you for all of the work you are about to do to help us gain a better experience at college. Thank you for helping me find a best friend. Thank you for walking me to class, probably making yourself late. Thank you for teaching me to avoid that crazy English teacher. Thank you for telling me about that bagel place, which may or may not have been that helpful. Thank you for giving us one more friend so we don’t have to do this alone.
Signed,
The Rising Freshmen
