Let's face it, bad days come more than anticipated and when they do, they tend to ruin everything. We've all had those days where we say "today's just not my day" and the more we think about it, we've had them more often than not. So, in order to help all those struggling with the "today's just not my day," I have put together a list of 6 things you should do once a day that will lead to a happier, healthier, "today IS my day" life.
1. The Six Second Smile
It's been said that smiling for just six seconds when you first wake up in the morning can change your entire mood for the day. During those six seconds your body is releasing serotonin so from the minute you open your eyes your mood is lifted.
2. Reflect on a Funny Memory
Remember those times you laughed so hard you cried? The minute you feel a bad day coming on, think of a funny memory, laugh it off and then make plans with friends to make those funny memories reoccur more often. The more you laugh and reflect on the positive memories from your life, the better you'll feel.
3. Surround Yourself Around Positive People
People that constantly make you smile and laugh are the ones you want to surround yourself with. Think of the people in your life that are able to turn your mood around just by their presence and hang out with them more often. The more you are around positive energy, the more the negative energy tends to disappear and the happier you become.
4. Appreciate Yourself
Instead of tearing yourself down, pick yourself up by thinking of all the accomplishments you have had, the friends and family that surround you and all the things that are still yet to come. Look in the mirror everyday and embrace the person you are, and the person you have become.
5. Find Something to Look Forward to
Instead of dwelling on something minor that happened in your day, think of something in your future you may be excited about. It could be as simple as a vacation, a night out with friends or even a large cone of chocolate ice cream. Life is better when there is something to look forward to.
6. Exercise
No one likes to sit inside all day. Instead, go to the gym, take a walk or just go sit outside in the fresh air. Studies have shown being outside can have extreme positive effects on someone. 20 minutes a day is all you need to release some stress and focus on yourself.
