On The Subject Of Abortion

When will we stop the conflict?

On The Subject Of Abortion

Quick question. When did it become a norm to bring up so many private things about a person, and put them in the political eye?

Abortion itself is indeed a public issue. But whether a person has one or not, well, that's very personal. Only the person thinking about getting an abortion should make that decision, and not everyone surrounding them.

And I say person, as the media seems to forget, trans men and people who fall outside the gender binary can become pregnant as well.

Often, abortion is related to a person's religious views. It is often the most right-wing religious people who protest abortions, and wish it to be illegal.

But the fact of the matter is, why do they care so much about an issue that barely affects them?

I've heard the argument about losing so much of future generations to abortion. But, what about generations before the ones of today? People had abortions, and guess what, our population is still blooming and growing.

There is also always people who consider abortion to be like murder. Usually, this is due to a religious view, but not always. I don't particularly have an argument for this, even though I disagree with this statement, so I'm just going to leave it.

But even aside from all my rambling...

Why I wish abortion to continue to be legalized is for the sake of the person birthing the child.

The toll and weight that a baby can give to a mother... the pain it can cause, the nutrients it can absorb, and the trauma an unwanted baby can cause... nothing is like it.

The fact of the matter is, it is the choice alone of the person carrying the child to decide whether or not they want to have an abortion. They don't need to tell anyone. There isn't some public record of people having abortions that PP publishes every year. Why do we have to politicize something that affects only the person carrying a fetus?

Other issues like this have arisen as well, when private matters become political scandals. Will we ever stop the nonsense?

I write this out of my frustration. Too often have I seen people saying the most horrible, unnecessary things to people who are pro-choice because of the "children". In my view, we need to think about the people carrying the children and how much their health will be affected by our continuing politicization of abortion. It will only cause chaos.

Someday, I hope to see a world where thousands, millions of people can have a safe, healthy abortion without the worry of what others will do or say.

Until that day, I will continue to voice my opinion.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
