A Thank You Letter to My Older Sister

Dear Big Sis,

I am probably one of the luckiest girls in the world to be able to call you my big sister. I look up to you in so many ways and I don't know where I would be today without you. You have done so much for me and I just want to say thank you.

Thank you for making mistakes for me. You did things you were not proud of and did not always set the best example. I learned what not to do and for that, I am so thankful. If you would have never made those mistakes who knows how I would have turned out.

Thank you for always being honest. From keeping me from leaving the house looking like a hot mess to telling me when I am being too much of a spoiled brat. Sometimes I would get mad or brush it off, but now when I look back and think about how I was behaving I am glad I had someone to tell me to chill out.

Thank you for not always choosing my side. When I call and complain to you about something mom and dad said you usually take my side. Unless I'm wrong. You always try to explain to me how I am wrong in the situation and you give me advice on how to handle it. If you always took my side I would not know how to accept being wrong.

Thank you for always being good at something. At times, I hated that you were better at some school subjects than me or that you were better at sports than I was because I was then held to a higher standard. Other times, however, I loved it because it gave me the motivation to study more and practice more and work harder to be better at everything I did.

Thank you for believing in me and encouraging me to pursue my dreams. No matter how outrageous and unreachable they were you never let me give up. You encourage me to pursue my passions and when I want to give up, a quick phone call is all that it takes to get me back on the right track.

Thank you for driving me around and never complaining. When mom and dad were busy you were the one who was given the task of driving me around. I was a busy little kid and whether it was soccer, cheerleading, campfire, dance, or church you drove me and I appreciate that. Even if you were late to pick me up from school a couple of times.

Thank you for inspiring me. You are my big sister and I look up to you. I see where you have been and where you are now in your life and it makes me want to grow up to be like you. You inspire me to be myself. You inspire me to be strong, compassionate, and driven.

I honestly don't know how I could have made it through these 20 years of life without you. I love you to the moon and back and am proud to call you my big sister. You rock.

Love,

Your Little Sis

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
