Taking candy from a seven year old is not nearly as easy as taking candy from a baby. And yet it is the seven year old that gets the better candy. School parties, Halloween, parades... everyone wants to give the good candy to the seven year old, not his weird older sister who drove all the way home from college for the homecoming parade.
The main problem is that now that your sibling is older they have become acutely aware of what is "theirs". Sometimes it seems that they don't actually care about the candy at all, they just don't want you to have something that is "theirs". There are, luckily, some easy ways to work around this. Here are some easy ideas.
1. Shove the candy in your mouth when they are not looking, and when they ask what you are eating tell them that it is a grown up food. Little kids just accept that they can't do something if you tell them that it's for grownups.
2. If they catch you eating their candy, bribe them with more candy. Tell them you will get it for them tomorrow and then drive back to college while they are sleeping that night.
3. Wait until they are sleeping, and then binge. You can get creative and leave a trail of wrappers all the way to the dog's cage.
4. Eat the candy and blame your other sibling. Again, you have the advantage of being able to leave at the end of the weekend, whereas the sibling that you will blame does not.
5. Offer a trade. One candy bar and you'll let them try your coffee.
6. Earn the candy. 10 rounds of hide and go seek = 1 box of nerds.
7. Tell your sibling that it's your birthday. Kids tend to believe that people get whatever they want on their birthdays, because that's what they want to be true on their birthdays. If they believe it is your birthday, they will give you the candy.
If you feel guilty about any of this, just think of all the valuable life lessons that your sibling will learn at such a young age! Best of luck to all older siblings seeking candy.
