Are you an old soul?

The other day I saw a quote on my Facebook feed that read, "how old would you be if you did not know how old you were?" That struck a chord with me, and if you're what they call an old soul then it probably resonated with you as well. If you're an old soul then you tend to have a view and approach to life that resembles that of someone much older than you. Still wondering if you fit the term old soul? Then ask yourself if the following twelve statements are true.

1. You've always been mature for your age.

Am I nineteen? Or am I fifty-five? The world may never know.

2. People always come to you with their problems.

You're basically a therapist for all your friends.

3. It's hard for you to connect with people your own age.

The downside of being mature for your age? You have a hard time relating to people your own age. They find it odd that you actually enjoy the news.

4. You tend to be the "parent" of your friend group.

Sometimes they resent your motherly instincts, but who always makes sure they drink enough water after a long night?

5. You're not up to date on pop culture.

Wait, Drake professed his love to who? Kayne and Kim did what?

6. You're nostalgic for a past you never experienced.

Your favorite movie is "The Breakfast Club," you enjoy the music of the past, and you question the style of this generation.

7. You like being alone.

Spending time with others is great and all, but sometimes it's best to just sit and enjoy your own company.

8. You hate small talk.

I couldn't care less about the weather, or how you did on yesterday's test. Tell me about your dreams, or how it felt when you failed at something. Tell me why you got so angry at your brother last night, why you hate Tuesdays, or why you believe in God. Tell me the story of the scar on your cheek, why you want to live in California, and what keeps you up at night. I don't want to know that it's raining out.

9. You've been called boring.

Just because you'd rather drink wine and watch movies than go out.

10. Finding a significant other is a struggle.

There's a reason people say that being a hopeless romantic stuck in a hookup culture is a special kind of hell. Take me on a date, a real one, not some Netflix and chill crap.

11. You can be hypersensitive.

What seems like no big deal to others, can mean the world to you and then you start judging yourself for being so sensitive...which only makes you more sensitive.

12. You become emotionally drained often.

The fast paced world of today can be a little too much for an old soul like yourself, so you tend to take a lot of naps.

Despite all the troubles that come along with being an old soul you wouldn't change anything about yourself. You know who you are, what you like (and don't like) and your maturity can come in handy at times.

So to all my fellow old souls, when life gets you down just repeat after me:

All the good vibes my friends.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
