An Ode To Obama

Ode to Obama,

Our President, our leader,

Our role model.

The man who has created great change,

Tremendous progress that will help our country move forward,

Even in a divided nation such as ours.

When America was frightened for the future this past week,

He promised us that we would all be okay,

That the sun would rise in the morning,

And that tomorrow would be a new day.

President Obama,

Just like many other things,

Was correct.

No matter how we feel about the election,

He told us that the best thing we can do is unite.

To unite as one nation,

And to accept people who are different than us.

This is what we must do for a President that has done so much for us,

And made the United States of America

A wonderful place to live.

Thank you Obama,

For everything you have done to improve

Our great nation.

You made history by becoming the first

African-American President of the United States,

Advocating for change and acceptance.

You also helped Hillary Clinton run for her Presidency,

Proving to young women like myself and your daughters,

That girls can be anything they wish to be.

Thank you Obama,

For helping pass the law legalizing

Gay Marriage,

And running around the White House

Carrying the rainbow flag

With Vice President Biden,

Letting same sex couples know that

You support them.

Thank you Obama,

For lowering the national unemployment rate,

And making affordable healthcare for

Working class families.

While you have done so many great

Things for us,

You have also supported us when

Times were tough in this country.

You were there when the nation

Mourned the loss of 20 children and six brave educators

At Sandy Hook Elementary School,

And urged us to come together for one another,

And think of peace, instead of violence.

You were there in Charleston to support those who

Lost their lives to racism and fear.

And you even sang Amazing Grace

Reminding the crowd that there is hope

In this World, and that

We must persevere through our hardships.

You were there when Boston was shaken in a

Heartbreaking attack.

But you gave hope to the hopeless

And told us that we would pick ourselves back up,

And we would finish the race.

You were there when innocent people at Pulse Nightclub

Were killed for their sexual preferences,

Because they were different.

But you spoke in support of the gay community,

And spoke of love,

To distract us from the hatred.

You were there when there was terror,

You were there when there was disaster,

You were there when there was hate.

But you were there when we triumphed,

And you will be there when we continue to triumph.

You touched so many lives in your Presidency.

You and Michelle danced with a vibrant 106 year old

African American Woman,

Who never thought she'd see a black

President in her lifetime.

And you melted our hearts

With your magical way of calming down babies.

And just recently,

You proved to the world that our differences

Are what make this country great.

At a Hillary Clinton rally,

You praised a protester,

Instead of shaming him.

You brightened not only our country,

But the world, which you helped make a better place.

You will be greatly missed,

But you told us to go forward.

And for that,

We will.

And finally,

One more thing for this

Incredible, kind, and funny

Person.

Thanks, Obama.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
