Ode To Basic Bitches

Being basic should never be a put down

I do not understand why there is such a hatred towards women enjoying what they want. It is on both sides of the gender spectrum, whether it is forward feminists that make fun of cozy girls in leggings or the stereotypical dude's dude. I personally love fall (besides the fact that my birthday is so close) for the weather, the vibes and the food.

Fall is just a wonderful time to experience and I am so thankful to be nestled in the Appalachian Mountains and am able to enjoy such a natural beauty. So my main question is, what is it about being a woman who thoroughly enjoys something that makes me a basic person? Are the material objects that we use not meant to be be used because that makes us look lame?

Feminism has been thrown around like a hot potato that nobody wants to touch because there is again a stigma about women that if they are a feminist they are "man haters." According to the Merriam-webster dictionary, feminism is defined as the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. While I was keying the word feminism into the search box like any other millennial, the first word that popped up was feminazi..... are we in a culture that hates women so much that we have to equate them to mass murder? I mean historically Hitler did have a photo of him in shorts banned but, like really people, come on! *yes the fact about Hitler's shorts is true, pick up a book!*

Now, I seemed to have lost my train of thought. But, regardless, women should be treated as equally as men. End of discussion. So why do we pit women against each other so much? Like, it is honestly none of your business why that woman over there is enjoying a PSL and some comfy-ass yoga pants. We as a society need to realize that once the oligarchy runs out of people to tear down, what will we have left?

Now for the wonderful attempt of being poetic. Here is my mini Ode:

Basic Bitches you are my Idol,

Ever since Lindsey Lohan went to trial

Oh great bitches

Hey basic bitches!

Are you ready to be some witches?

Dressing up for one or more nights only to end up taking off your painful heels and having people make fun of your obsession with fall

Y'all going to the pumpkin patches

Praying that you get thoseTinder matches

Why must you challenge me so?

I dream of being a great feminist like RBG but your Uggs be so comfy

I see why you want them on your feet so cozy like "omg wow"

Pumpkin spice latte's and pumpkin, like everything!

These are just a few of your favorite things

Oobsessing over Starbucks I am like you, too

Secretly we all should aspire to be you: enjoying life

There will always be judgmental looks and comments

But basic bitches unite over being comfortable and downing warm taste of fall in your mouth

Some say that you will never amount to anything but I believe that you can do anything!

Especially with those comfortable clothes

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
