Oh, happy day! We are all home for Thanksgiving break and couldn't be happier. It's that time of the year where you can go home and relax, and have your parents pamper you. Thanksgiving is like the opening number for Christmas's grand performance; it does it's routine and when it's over you immediately hear the french horns warming up in the background. Thanksgiving is so much more than just a meal you have with distant relatives once a month, it's a time to reflect on your life and remember what you're thankful for.
Thanksgiving is such a great time for college students. You get to come home for a week and see all your friends from home and catch up. It's also the perfect amount of time at home- because let's face it, although we're all excited to go home we're even more excited to go back to school. It's nice to go home for the break and actually be able to miss waking up at 8 a.m. and not feeling guilty for it.
Although Thanksgiving break can be rough, and awkward at times, it's nice to see distant relatives. It's always awkward when every year you somehow have to explain to your extended family on why it is you're not engaged yet...it could possibly be the fact that I'm only 20 or that I'm only in it for the date dash shirt. Regardless of why you're single at the moment, it's nice to have people, especially family, be so involved in your life; after all they only ask because they care.
Thanksgiving is the Christmas of meals. It's not served year round, so when Thanksgiving dinner does come around you know it's going to be good. You're mom and aunt start cooking at 6 a.m. and don't stop until everyone's seated at the table. From stuffing your face with mashed potatoes or turkey to trying to keep your eyes open after you're done eating, you're thankful to have elastic pants and a button on your jeans. I don't know about y'all but I'm thankful that I still have the honor to sit at the children's table because they 100% do not eat as much as I can...so I never have to feel bad about taking second or thirds.
In all seriousness, I am thankful to have a home to come back to, a family to embrace me with love, and food on my table. It is important to remember where you come from and how some people in the country may not be having the same Thanksgiving as you. So if you have extra food on Thanksgiving I highly encourage you to bring it to your local food shelter. Thanksgiving is a time in your life for you to be truly humble and thankful for all that you have, such as the fact that you have the opportunity to go to college.
So may your Thanksgiving be filled with lots of delicious food, long naps, loving family, and college football.
