Ode to Gumby's Pizza

But mostly an ode to Pokey Stix

Ode to Gumby's Pizza

If you are a part of the elite and beautiful group who make up the student body at The University of Florida, then you are more than likely aware of an extremely special place here in Gainesville. This magical, wonderful, extraordinary place is  commonly known as Gumby's Pizza. Gumby's is special in a way that no other establishment is. It provides nurture, care, love, and Pokey Stix to every student it serves.

What are Pokey Stix, you ask? Pokey Stix are pieces of cheesy bread hand-crafted by the Gods themselves. These Stix are accompanied by an endless variety of delightful dipping sauces, which have been scientifically proven to cure an epidemic that has rocked college campuses nationwide: the drunchies. I have never experienced the phenomenon of the drunk munchies, mostly due to my pristine set of life choices, but I have heard that it happens quite often within the college community.

In addition to helping students rid themselves of these horrid drunchies, Pokey Stix can provide emotional support that no one else can. They will, without a doubt, turn your frown upside down. If you are going through romantic speed bumps, or are just generally upset about what you have decided to do with your night, Pokey Stix will soothe your worries. The magic cheese bread will melt your sadness away faster than an FSU student solving a basic math problem -- give or take 45 to 50 minutes.

I have never actually been inside of Gumby's Pizza, mostly resorting to the beautiful invention of delivery, but I am assuming that it is located at the end of a rainbow. I am also assuming that unicorns are responsible for the making of the Pokey Stix.

In conclusion, if you are one of the few who have not tasted this beautiful creation that is Pokey Stix, I strongly suggest calling (352) 374-8629, as soon as possible. I love you, Gumby's. Don't ever change --  unless you move your restaurant next to my dorm.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
