An Ode to All Mothers

Just a few words to explain how amazing our Mothers truly are.

An Ode to All Mothers

Think back to your childhood. When you fell down and scraped your knee, who was there to wipe away the tears. When you were bullied by kids at school, who defended you and made sure no one bully you again. When you grew up and wanted nothing to do with her, who gave you space and let you fail on your own and caught you when you fell. Unless you were raised by a pack of stray dogs, your Mom did all those things and so much more.

To me, it's silly we celebrate Mother's day just once a year. Only one day we are required to stop worrying about our lives, our problems, our own issues and just smile as we go to brunch. Our moms are much more deserving then that right? Hell, I mean after all our Moms;

Loved us from the second they saw our unformed faces on the sonogram.

They forgot about their dreams and began worrying about ours.

They made sure they were able to give us a good life with whatever money they had.

They didn't care how big and stretched their bodies got, we were worth it.

They endured the pain of walking around with a big belly that killed their backs.

They also had to suffer through child birth for hours on end just because they were so excited to meet you.

When they saw your face for the time, they couldn't help but smile.

They made sure the whole world knew you were happy and healthy.

They slept only 2-3 hours a night because we were jerks and kept them awake.

They didn't care how tired they were, how bad they smelt, how gross they looked. They just wanted to make sure you were happy.

As we grew up and began walking, they didn't care how fast we ran, they'd run just with us.

Messes only got bigger and they cleaned them up with smiles on their faces.

They stopped worrying about their life and only began looking at their own.

A night with a baby sitter to them was only a dream to them.

And date night was a damn miracle.

They were always there to tend our wounds and wipe away the tears.

They gave you the nicest things money could buy, even if they didn't have much.

She put you through 12 years of school...and started a life savings account.

She stayed up late with you to do homework...and sometimes did it for you.

When people picked on you, she always knew how to make you feel better.

As you got even older, she didn't care if conversations got short, she put up with your evil teenage ways.

She was hurt that you only asked her for money rather then her advice, but she smiled and let you go....in public

When she met a friend or significant other, she never told you how she truly felt about them...trust me, she hated most of them.

She always was there to cheer you on at extra circular activities (football, chess, choir) and comfort you if you didn't do well.

She made sure you looked your best for dates and dances.

She only took those pictures of you to save a memory you'll appreciate years later.

When you finally walked across that stage a graduated High School, she was prouder of you then you were of yourself.

And when you packed up that car and headed away for college or the next chapter of your life, she smiled with tears in her eyes, knowing everything would be all right.

Mothers Day may only be celebrated one day a year, but honestly that's not enough.

Moms deserve so much more then that, but knowing them, they won't care if it's only an hour or all year, they're just happy to be loved by their kids.

So if have a Mom, alive or dead, show them how much you love them and how blessed you are to have them in your life.

And if you are a Mom; (young, old, teenage, brad new or just expecting), thank you for everything you have done and everything you're about to do. We love you.

Happy Mother's Day Everyone.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
