Ocean City, NJ: As Told By DJ Pauly D

After spending a week in Ocean City for the past 10 summers, I noticed some changes the town has made as well as observations I made about the town.

Ocean City, NJ: As Told By DJ Pauly D
Tom Gari Gallery

As I am entering my senior year of college, I am faced with the question of whether or not the amazing friends I have made over the past three years and I will remain as close as we enter adulthood. Although losing these friends seems like a scary thought, I have a role model to look up to in this category. It has been exactly thirty years since my mother graduated from college and she still keeps in touch with her college girlfriends. While she always made time to see them at least once a year, things changed ten years ago when we all decided to pack our bags and head to Ocean City, New Jersey for a week. She, my sister and I, two of her best friends from college, and their children have kept up with this same tradition since then.

Throughout those ten years, Ocean City has evolved in general but, has also evolved in my eyes since my first summer here at age eleven. Pauly D, from the 2009 MTV series "Jersey Shore," has an infamous saying that he used when his friends were interested in younger women. Although the Jersey shore that Pauly partied on is about thirty minutes south of Ocean City, his iconic phrase will help me as I identify the changes and differences this fun, family town has made throughout the years.

1. If she didn't eat at Manco & Manco Pizza when it was Mack & Manco Pizza, "she's too young for you, bro!"

Manco & Manco Pizza is probably the most famous pizza shop in Ocean City and it is absolutely necessary to eat there when visiting the town. Believe it or not, Manco & Manco Pizza was originally named Mack & Manco Pizza when founded in 1956 by two cousins who dreamed of owning a pizzeria. In 2011. Rumors began about the team splitting up and the name possibly being changed which became official in 2012. For years, no one knew the real reason why Mack parted ways with Manco, but in 2014 the truth came out. While I don't want to get involved in all the drama, we can conclude that Mack should've paid his taxes.

2. If she doesn't remember the time the boardwalk wasn't full of frozen yogurt shops, "she's too young for you, bro!"

Frozen yogurt has always been a delicious summertime dessert, however, within the past four years, it seems there has been a fro-yo epidemic. have taken over the Ocean City, NJ boardwalk. This is definitely not a complaint though, as I love me some fro-yo.

3. If she is one of the "cool kids" on the boardwalk, "she's too young for you, bro!"

When I was between the ages of thirteen through seventeen, the Ocean City boardwalk was my hot spot every night. This is where I would hang out with my friends, check out the shops, and scope for cute boys. However, as I got older, I began to notice that the people became much younger. This boardwalk definitely has an age limit, and one tip of advice, always steer clear of someone wearing a "Free Hugs" shirt. Yes, they still exist.

4. If she spends her whole day walking the boardwalk hitting each Pokéstop, "she's too young for you, bro!"

Pokémon Go has become the summer craze since the release of the app this July. For this app, there are different locations, in real life, the gamers can go to in order to stock up on poké balls, potions, razz berries, and other necessary items. I downloaded this game when it first came out just to see what the hype was all about. I have never watched Pokémon and I know absolutely nothing about it, but the game is a lot of fun! However, I think it's sad to see kids surrounding these Pokéstops in a virtual world instead of embracing reality. I really noticed this a lot while in Ocean City, NJ. My family and friends usually spend our beach days near the Wonderland Pier, which is home to a plethora of Pokéstops and Pokémon trainers gathering items. How do I know they are playing the game? "Oh, it's nothing great, just a Weedle."

5. If she never went over the drawbridge between Somers Point and Ocean City, "she's too young for you, bro!"

In 2006, Ocean City and Somers Point decided to do away with their classic drawbridges of the Route 52 Causeway and make room for a new and improved bridge. In 2012, the new bridge was completed including new feature like a fishing pier, four driving lanes, and walkways for bicyclists and pedestrians. The new bridge is beautiful and has multicolored lights that can be seen for miles at night.

6. If she's still taking pictures with the flip flops, "she's too young for you, bro!"

The flip flops in front of the Music Pier are one of the staple places for tourists in Ocean City to take pictures. We used to take pictures with these every year, however, once most of us were basically out of high school, we no longer took pics in front of the flip flops. It's sad but still a great memory to look back on. Also, in case you were wondering, that's eleven year old me in the front with my fake D&G sunglasses and braces.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
