Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is commonly misunderstood to the point where everyone who actually has the disorder gets extremely frustrated. Either by the change of the original meeting into something like "Obsessive Christmas Disorder" or neurotypicals telling other people that they have OCD because "they are a clean freak," the true meaning of the disorder gets lost and people that actually suffer get aggravated.
Intrusive Thoughts
Intrusive thoughts can be defined as a thought of what may happen to you or someone you care about. They can also be thoughts about what you may do to yourself or to someone else. They're strong thoughts that some people can control, while others cannot.
Impulsive Thoughts
Sometimes impulsivity and intrusive thoughts are confused for each other. An impulse can be defined as something that your brain is telling you to do, even when there is no logic or reason to do so. My hair is short because of a random impulsive thought to cut it all off (thank God it doesn't look horrific).
"I cannot imagine stepping outside at the moment."
There are a lot of issues that occur daily with a person that has OCD. One of mine is that I cannot step outside of the house at times because of an intense fear that I will get extremely sick or injured in one way or another.
Teacher: "Are you even paying attention." Me: "Actually I was counting each and every tile on the wall so that I can get back to working on my paper."
To all of my teachers, I apologize for this, but some of the time I just cannot help it. Sometimes a break in concentration happens and I have to count every ceiling tile or tap the four connecting tiles under my feet before I can revert my attention back to the assignment. I don't really understand why either.
Being the slow eater because you have to eat each square of the waffle one at a time.
This is a common thing between me and the few friends I know that also have OCD. Sometimes it doesn't matter, sometimes you have to eat each square of the waffle one at a time. Sometimes you have to eat all of one item before you can move to the next. A lot of the time your food can't touch.
