Taking Away Our Freedom To Choose Makes My Millennial Blood Boil

I am a Millennial. I am also middle class, educated, and white. Do these things make a difference in my interpretation of the usefulness of Obamacare? I know one thing. With the current way I have set up my career I cannot afford health insurance in the private sector. I also find car insurance to be outrageous, as well as rent and food. This all points to inflation in the US. The increase in pricing and the complexity of the capitalist thieving of our economy is something that will be very difficult for the Millennials who follow the free spirit style to confront.

This brings many of us to try Obamacare. Yes, this system has allowed millions of Americans to obtain health insurance when before they could not. This helps families and children receive medical care that can treat and also prevent illnesses and improve the overall health of the nation. However the annual increasing monetary penalty for those who do not get insurance is an absurdity. I imagine that this has the aim to convince people to log on, fill out the details and get insurance, hoping it will be affordable. But it is also an offense. For the young person who is healthy and maybe goes to a doctor once a year just to go, paying for insurance at high prices is just a way to put the rest of the country on our backs.

If the government wants to offer insurance at an "affordable" price to people who have little income that is wonderful. But to force everyone to be insured is too much control. Plus every year one must reassess and the online system is not developed enough to make the enrolling easy. It is a huge headache to go to healthcare.gov and enroll, especially if you have a complex income stream or any life changes.

For the person who tries to create their own life outside of the 9 to 5, benefits and 401K packages and sell their life to a big company for 40 years, this healthcare system along with the financial penalty threatened is quite an offense.

I understand that when millions of people and families with kids do not have insurance and live in poverty, then use hospital and emergency services without paying, it is a financial strain on the country. Obamacare provides a possible solution to lack of consistent and affordable healthcare for many people. But for those of us who would like to have the time and freedom to find our insurance when we want, this pressure from the government is annoying and stressful.

Plus the system is not all that simplified and the more I see it the more I see capitalist greed and hunger for power. I am not sure where this country is going, but we are certainly divided. I myself am divided. My humanitarian values conflict with my desire for simplicity and individual freedom. I just want the choice. Maybe the real issue I have is the threat of a $695 penalty, which I saw on billboards across the country and in train and metro advertisements. Maybe I am glad that healthcare may be more affordable, but I also still want the American people to be able to care for themselves and choose to use it or not.

Maybe the US needs to break apart and be multiple small countries, because as we have seen in this last election, we are not on the same page. As I say that I also admit that I saw the potential to be a strong and noble nation, and my 13-city tour made me feel the grandeur of these united states. But then I pick up a book and read the history of genocide of Native Americans and the slavery of multiple races, which has scarred our society since its beginning, and I realize that a beginning so incredibly wrong likely cannot lead to a very positive end.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
