New York City is home to 8 million people. When we think of New York City, we may think of a variety of different things- food, culture, diversity, business... and fashion. Throughout New York City, there are several colleges dedicated to earning a fashion degree, including Parson's, the New School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology - the top two fashion colleges in the United States. While traveling through New York City, different areas have their own trends. Here are some trends I have recognized as a New Yorker.
Minimalism and Patterns
New York City fashion is different than fashion in any other city. I like to use the words "sleek and chic." There are a lot of slicked back buns and ponytails along with minimalist colors such as black, white and grey. However, another wonderful thing about New York City fashion is that it is not limited to these colors. While walking amongst the streets of New York City, it is common to see colorful scarves, hats, and coats. Patterns are also seen regularly, especially on pants and coats.
Fur is back in style and New Yorkers are rocking it like there's no tomorrow! From fur vests, fur boots, and fur coats, it doesn't even matter what season it is because New York City embraces the lovely style.
Leopard print is another style that is also seen on various articles of clothing. Many believe leopard will always be in style. It definitely adds personality to a plain outfit.
The Power of Black
Black is always in style- end of story. Black clothing holds so much power. New York City definitely shows their love for black clothing- whether one is going to work, out for the night, or just to run some errands, black is always appropriate.
