It seems like there are a lot of people my age, even older that are struggling. You see this especially in college, we're out on our own for the first time and trying to figure out where we belong. All our lives we've been asked what we wanted to be when we grew up, but we didn't expect it to come so soon. Are we really supposed to know what we want to do with the rest of our lives at 18? 20? You have plenty of time. It's been said that the average college student will change majors three times before graduation. This is the best time to find yourself. Go out and see the world, gather experiences, meet people. If you feel like you're missing something, you probably just haven't found it yet. We're at an age where our limited experience leaves a lot of holes in our stories. We don't know what we're missing because we just haven't discovered it yet. There's so much to find and look forward to. Take the time to slow down and enjoy the world. Sometimes the best things are little things that can be overlooked, like sunsets or clear, starry skies. Don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. Being stuck in a repetitive cycle makes it hard to find new things. Early, late, fast, or slow mean nothing; as long as you're moving forward, there's no such thing. Your own pace is the best pace. You're probably right where you need to be. If you're not, visualize where you'd rather be and start taking steps to get there.
To the ones who feel lost: don't limit yourself. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that you can't attach your identity to things that are temporary. You are not whoever you're dating, what they like, etc. Changing yourself to impress someone will only leave you confused about who you really are. When/if they leave it will feel like they've taken a part of you with them. Don't let anyone hold you back. Your whole identity shouldn't rest in your job or what school you go to. You are not whatever people's expectations of you are, you're not even your own past expectations of yourself. People change, including you. Always keep an open mind. Be open to new perspectives. People say all the time not to limit your dreams, but they're right. The only person holding you back is you. If you don't truly believe you can achieve something, it will never happen. Go for it, anything is possible. Find what makes you happy and sprint in that direction. "Don't dream it, be it." It's okay to not know the answers right now, it's never too late. It's what you do with your time that counts.
If you can't find peace within yourself, you won't be able to find it anywhere else. You also won't be able to share it with others. It's okay to take a step back and think about things. Maybe life's about the journey. Maybe you have to get lost first. One day it'll all make sense. Find yourself and the rest will follow.
