Dear Senior Class,
First, congratulations for making it to the g-word, and sorry for reminding you that it is happening. Being in the footsteps of your class has been wonderful — you have shown us (underclasswomen) what it means to be a senior, a role model, a friend and a leader. When we needed you to listen to our pointless problems, when you had so many many more you were there. If we needed a hug after some boy made us feel bad you gave us a big hug. On weekends, and weekdays, on birthdays, and bad days, morning, day and night you were there for us, whether it was a hug, or advice or a drink. Whatever we needed, it was you who made sure we were OK, even though your lives had so much more going on.
You let us into your apartments. You let us borrow your clothes. You let us eat your snacks. You found us water when that was what we needed, even if you were not on campus to find it for us. When we needed something to eat, you found something that we would eat. Thank you for not being fazed when I needed a new place to stay at 3 a.m., or when someone thought I might have been dead, or when there was some very strange question we needed an answer to right away. For doing my makeup and having it look so damn good … every single time. Thank you for the late-night talks. For laughing with me. Thank you for being yet another friendly face on campus. Thank you for being who you are.
You stole our hearts — we can never truly repay you for everything that you have done. It is scary and upsetting to think we will not get to hug you when the summer is over, but you have shown us how to be strong and how to be a role model for the girls who are coming in. We know you do not really want to leave us, that “the real world” is just as scary to you as it is to us. You will triumph in your adult life as we have seen you triumph here on campus. You helped us in every strange scenario, and cleaned us up seemingly unscathed. There's nothing that this strange world can throw at you that would be too much for you to handle.
So cheers to you! You have shown us the way and taught us how to be a role model. We would be lost without your leadership. If anyone deserves a diploma, it is you. So, cheers to the memories we made, for the stories that have been created. Cheers to real jobs, in the real world. Cheers to graduation!
Congratulations,
Underclass Women of Sweet Briar College
