"The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom." - Ronald Reagan
Contrary to popular belief, 99 percent of conservatives across this country stand for liberty. We’re a big tent party that boasted the membership of 40 percent of the Democratic Primary (Lincoln Chafee and noted college Republican, Hillary Rodham Clinton). Across the country, conservatives are recognized for their smart management and leadership. I am proud to work for a conservative movement that:
Embraces individuality and personal freedom.
Being a conservative is all about individual freedom. The government has no role in our personal lives and shouldn’t legislate what anyone does in their boardroom or the bedroom. True conservatives leave morality to individuals and business decisions to businesses. We believe in the power of the markets and individual choice.
Supports smart management of our government.
Conservatives look to make smart decisions with government spending. It’s imperative to manage our growing debt so that the next generation doesn’t have to pay for our irresponsible spending. Look no further than Massachusetts, where Republican Governor Charlie Baker has already earned the reputation of “Governor Fix-It” for his smart, budget friendly reforms. Government should provide opportunities for its citizens to grow. For example, Republican governors like Scott Walker and Jeb Bush pushed smart education reform while focusing on shrinking debt and the size of the federal budget. At the national level, Paul Ryan, the next Speaker of the House, has sought to pass Pell Grant reform and has worked for years to push his Path to Prosperity budget proposal. He now will have the influence to make some of these reforms part of the national conversation.
Is ideologically and racially diverse.
Despite an increasingly partisan US Congress, Republicans in many states compromise, work across the aisle and build well functioning legislatures. These fiscally responsible, socially tolerant leaders fit into a party that has something for everyone. Sometimes, unfortunately, this leads to some outrageous claims from members of our party. Unfortunately, the freedom of speech gives people the freedom to say ugly things. However, I’ll gladly work with a party that promotes freedom instead of repressing it. These values reach a diverse population that features a diverse base across the United States.
