When you first go to college, you meet new people. You are thrown into a new environment and suddenly, you have to fend for yourself. You have to be daring and move out of your comfort zone a little bit to really soak it up and take advantage of this new opportunity. I am currently a freshman in college. Looking back on my freshman year, I became friends with people that I know I will be close with for the rest of my life.
Before I went to school, people always told me how close you get to the people you meet in college. At first, I didn't understand why. Looking back on this past year, I finally understand it. This past year, I met the most incredible people. Over the past eight months of knowing one another, we have become like siblings. At the beginning, it was hard to adjust to the different things about college. I no longer received home-cooked meals from Mom after school. I had to do all of my laundry by myself. If I made a mess, that mess was still there when I got back from class. The fairy didn't come and clean it up for me. I had to learn how to share a room with a complete stranger (or three). I had to get used to not being with my siblings. Suddenly, these people that were strangers a few months ago became my siblings. We ate together, studied together, watched movies and spent every waking second with one another. When we went home on breaks, we felt lost without being with each other for most of the day.
Over the past eight months, I have learned so many things. I have learned exactly what food makes my friend feel better when she's sad. Exactly how many seconds to put our popcorn in the microwave for so it doesn't burn. Everyone's class schedules, so we can meet up in between classes. Lastly, I have learned that I can't imagine my life without the people I have met in college. Besides the fact that we live far from one another, I know that these individuals will be in my life for years to come. This past year has been one of the best ones yet because of the incredible people I have met throughout the beginning of my college journey. So thank you for making my freshman year a year to remember. I wouldn't be where I am without my friends.
