With 2016 in full swing, the presidential election seems to be rapidly approaching. There is a lot of hype about Donald Trump. Some love him and others hate him. I can't say I feel either way about him, but I can tell you I will not be voting for Donald Trump this upcoming election.
While divorcing his ex-wife, she accused him of raping her. Trump later hired a lawyer who boldly stated a man raping your wife in New York is not illegal (which it is). Later on in the divorce, she dropped the charges.
While going through that divorce, one of Trump's lawyers is quoted in a Vanity Fair Magazine article from the 90s saying that Trump "is a fan of the big-lie theory. If you tell someone something enough, they believe it."
He has the support of Vladimir Putin. Putin is the "President" of Russia and can easily be considered one of the most corrupt leaders of our time, as he has been known to get rid of opposition by jailing or forcing them to leave the country. He was accused of stealing 30 billion dollars from the Sochi Olympic Development Fund. Russia should easily be one of the richest countries in the world based on its resources but simply is not due to the corruption of Putin's regime.
Trump does not have the support of some of our closest allies, such as French Prime Minister Manuel Valls and British Prime Minister David Cameron. Even Canada, who usually refrains from commenting on other countries' political affairs, had something negative to say about Donald Trump. You can read more about it here.
People like to say that Trump is "real" because he is not a politician. They're right about him not being a politician, but he's a billionaire. That means he's even dirtier than a politician. How does someone become a billionaire? Some get lucky. Some happen to invent a popular product. And then there are people like Trump who have admitted to abusing the system in order to prosper. This was in the very first debate of the race and, for some reason, it made him more popular. Like that was an admirable thing to do.
Or maybe they liked his "honesty." The man was awarded PolitiFact's 2015 Lie of the Year. They have analyzed all of his statements for their credibility, and only 1 percent were categorized as true. Click here for the full report.
Maybe honesty isn't the best word to describe Trump, but he "speaks his mind" and "doesn't believe in political correctness," as some Trump supporters would say. Here's the problem with that: we're dealing with the face of our country for the next four years. The world will view America based on the actions and words of Donald Trump. I don't want to be associated with the racist and sexist statements of Donald Trump. He's entitled to his own opinions, but being president requires being professional.
This election isn't a joke. This election determines the fate of our country for the next four years. And because of that, I will not be voting for a candidate who I only knew of from entertainment prior to the election. Someone who is infamous for uttering his line, "You're fired." Infamous for his outrageous statements and shiny towers in major U.S. cities. I will not be voting for Donald Trump.
Instead, I will be voting for someone who cares about every human being living in America, no matter their race, religion, or gender. I will be voting for someone who wants to protect the freedoms that come with being an American, not suppress them. I will be voting for someone who stands by the words of the Constitution and the symbols of this country. That's the job of a president. Remember that when it's time to vote. Who do you really want to represent you over these next four years? Who is really going to do their best to serve you?
