Strange but true.

I'm Not a Vegan But That Doesn't Mean I Don't Support Animals
Sean P. Twomey

Before I begin, I would just like to point out I'm not against veganism or vegetarianism, I just think different of them. I do support animal rights, but I'll explain more of my beliefs in a bit.

It doesn't matter how many videos PETA tries to shove in my face. The vegan lifestyle just isn't for me. We all should know the difference between vegans and vegetarians: vegetarians just can't eat meat (and possibly other animal products). Vegans can't have any animal products, because vegetarians are inclined to eat some dairy products. In terms of being a vegetarian, I think I could only do it for a few days to a week at most. But being a vegan? Never in a million years.

I know a quite a few people who chose that lifestyle and I always wonder, "How do you do it?" Well, it's just how they live their life, and there's nothing wrong with that. However for me, the thing is, I've eaten meat for so long there's no question it's a part of my diet. I try to skip it maybe once or twice a week, but I wouldn't be the same if I didn't eat it. I also have cereal with cow's milk almost every day, so there's no way I could give up dairy so easily.

Now just because I eat animal products doesn't mean I don't care about animals. Ever since I was a little kid, I never cared for zoos because I felt terrible for the animals. I was more lenient when it came to aquariums, but I don't 100% support their beliefs either. I've never been to SeaWorld, and I don't plan to any time soon. I am against how they treat their animals. I was never a big fan of circuses, but again, I'm slightly more lenient of their treatments. I don't completely support it, but I don't think it's as bad as SeaWorld.

Overall, I might eat animal products, but I'm at the point where a vegan lifestyle would make me miserable. I would lose so much variety in what I eat that it just wouldn't work out for me in the end. I do support animal rights as much as the next guy, but I'm not a crazed activist. As tough as it is to say, I do agree with PETA on some things, but not everything. There are certain animals I don't want to die or go extinct. And I know I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
