Not Just A Theme Park

Why Walt Disney World is more than just a theme park.

Not Just A Theme Park
Abby Brogdon

Walt Disney World is so much more than a theme park. Working for the Walt Disney World company was such a marvelous journey. Not only did I learn a ton about the Walt Disney Company in itself but I also learned more about myself that I never knew.

The thing is Disney World is not just a theme park. Of course, it has Disney themed worlds and there's a bunch of attractions and rides. But when guests come to visit Walt Disney World they are completely drawn in to the idea that they are actually visiting Africa (Animal Kingdom) or they are actually in Ariel's Grotto (New Fantasy Land). Guests of the parks become apart of the actions going on around them. When you ride an attraction it feels like you are actually traveling through space (space mountain) or taking a journey through a pirate infested village (Pirates of the Caribbean). When guests come to Disney you become part of the magic. Other theme parks just do not have that magic feeling.

Now just think how magical it is to visit Disney World! Imagine that a hundred times more magical!! Thats what it feels like working for Mickey Mouse. Honestly, there were days where I did not want to get up and go to work. I would of much rather skipped work and spent a day in Hollywood Studios riding Rockin Roller Coaster and dropping to what felt like my death on Tower of Terror over and over and over again until I was actually sick and had an excuse to miss work for real. Sometimes, I even had to remind myself that this is an actual job and I am not on vacation. But, I never regretted a day of work. I literally spent all day creating MAGIC!!.

Some people might say that working for Disney ruins the enchantment of Disney or that taking a semester off of college to intern with one of the top companies in the world was a waste of time (I know crazy right?). But they could not be more than wrong. I have discovered a new part of me that I never knew existed. As Walt Disney says, "the more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique". Working for this outstanding company made me see the magic inside me. Moving 650 miles away from my family and friends or anyone I ever knew might have been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I learned to rely on myself and no one else. Who I am now is the person I have always wanted to be. Though serving guest or in my case other cast members at Walt Disney World I have realized that it is okay to not grow up completely.

See.. Disney is much much more than just a "theme park" it is a place where Cinderella's castle spires gleam in the night sky, where fantasy is real and all your wishes come true. It is where ever day ends happily ever after. Disney World is a place where magic lives. Thank you Mr. Disney for creating this perfect world and for helping me realize who I really was.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
