I am excited to go back to school. I get to see my friends and start new classes. The beginning of the year is a super exciting time. Although the beginning of the year is a lot of fun, some of the things we have to get done before going back to school are definitely not fun. As we all getting ready to head back college I thought I would remind you of some of them out!

1. Watching your money quickly disappear out of your bank account

Giphy

You worked all summer but now it is time to go back to school. You go to the store thinking that you only need a few things for your brand new apartment or dorm room, but it turns out you need a lot more things than you thought you did. Then after that, you have to buy all your books for your classes for the semester. Next, you get your meal plan or buy groceries so you don't starve to death. Finally, you buy a whole boatload of other stuff you probably don't actually need. College is expensive, my friend.

2. Online modules

Giphy

Many colleges have you complete safety and educational modules on important topics like sexual harassment. While these things take you some time, it is important to take them seriously.

3. Packing all your stuff up

Giphy

After spring semester you packed up your stuff so you go study abroad in France, visit your family, or intern for a company. But congratulations, it is now is time to pack up all your stuff again!

4. Moving in

Giphy

Yup, is it time for you to struggle dragging your mini refrigerator up 5 flights of stairs! Moving in is stressful and a lot of work. Hopefully, you can find some friends, family, or maybe even some friendly strangers to help you out. It is super tiring but at the end of the day, it is worth it when your place looks perfect!

5. Filling out paper work

Giphy

There are so many forms. I cannot even tell you how many forms there are. But every form is important and your life will be a lot easier if you fill them out immediately.

6. Last minute class scheduling

Giphy

Of course, most of us picked all of our classes in the spring, but sometimes our minds change or something else happens. Classes may be added that you like better, a class may be canceled, or you may be frantically waiting to get off the waitlist for a class you really need.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
