I Am Not A Feminist, But I Am A Woman

Don't judge someone because of the way they choose to fight for what they believe in.

I Am Not A Feminist, But I Am A Woman

No, I am not a feminist. Yes, I am a woman who supports her fellow women in the fight towards our rights. The rights that we have as individuals in this free country. When it comes to certain matters in this world people think that women are taking things "too far" or they are being "too extra." But when it comes to our own bodies, we know our limitations and shouldn't have to hide or cower in fear every time we go out and try to meet new people. We shouldn't have to fear the way we choose to dress, the way we choose to look to make ourselves feel good and beautiful.

Yes, I am a woman who sees all the content online and in the news and no, I shouldn't be watching what I say and what I wear because it leads men to think that I want to be attacked or hollered at or groped. No, I am not a feminist, but I do support my fellow women who don't want to be taken for granted for speaking their minds. We are equal to men in many ways and everyone needs to realize that because we will fight for our rights to free speech and our right not to be treated like dirt. We are not "overreacting" to things people say, we are not "sensitive" to the fact that people say things as a "joke." We don't want to be shut down for our thoughts, or torn down by the precautions we decide to take for our safety.

We shouldn't have to live in a world where all you hear is "Love Trumps Hate" all the time, or where people of all genders and ethnicity should have to stay hidden away to keep themselves safe. As of now we are all living in some sort of fear because of the way we are all presenting our thoughts and putting them into words. We can't live in fear because this is the way that America decided our country to be like, and all we can do is survive it together. We can't tear apart people because of the way they are politically affiliated. There are going to be things that we will not all agree on, that only makes us human. But we can not let it get to the point where it will tear apart all types of relationships fighting about who is right. All we, as the people of America, can do is fight. And not fight for "making America great again" but fight for peace, and for love towards everyone who is in this country. Fight for your friends, fight for all the people you know and those that you don't. Fight and stand up for those who don't think they have a choice, and tell them they do. Tell them they have a voice that can be heard and use it to stand for what you believe in...

No, I am not a feminist... I do not label myself as a "feminist" because it is just a title. A word that people use to define themselves today to say that they are fighting for women's rights, but if you always believe in the rights that everyone has as a whole instead of just women you are not a feminist you are a person who cares for their country. I am someone who wants their country to see people as equals instead of constantly fighting between men and women. I am a woman, a woman who fights for herself, for the ones she loves and fights for what she believes in... and that's all I could ask for.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
