Halloween is my favorite holiday and here's why...

I feel like Halloween is such an underrated holiday. A lot of people focus on the idea that Halloween is supposed to be scary or evil and they let that hinder their views on what a great holiday it really is.

To be completely honest, Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday. There's so many different reasons why I love this season, and since it's coming up soon I figured I'd share my reasoning with you all!

1. Halloween is full of history.

Halloween used to be called All Hallows Eve, referring to remembering the dead. Basically humor was used to help people deal with the topic of death. The main idea of this holiday is to speak of death as something light-hearted. In hindsight, this is good because it teaches us that one cannot always wallow in the sadness of death.

2. It's unexpected and spooky all wrapped up into one.

Halloween is the time of the year that it's acceptable to be scared. In fact, it's encouraged! There's something about the adrenaline rush of being scared or feeling that fight or flight instinct kick in.

3. Delightful decorations.

One of the best parts of Halloween is seeing all the decorations. I don't know about you, but I think it's the best part because it encourages creativity. Every house is different and I love seeing so many ways to use the same props or theme!

4. P U M P K I N S!

Tis the season for orange my friends! Some of my fondest childhood memories consist of carving pumpkins and feeling the "eewie gooey inside" as I used to call it. I feel like pumpkin decorating is such a classic tradition that everyone experienced as a child. Plus, now that you're older, it's easier to really appreciate the creative process that is pumpkin decorating. Sometimes it's just art.

5. Self expression.

The phrase, "You can be anything you want to be," really comes to life on this holiday. Absolutely nothing is out of reach! It's encouraged that you step outside of your comfort zone and try something you've always wanted to, to be something or someone that you've always wanted to be. No one's going to judge you because they're going to do it too!

6. Magnificent movie marathons.

Some of the best movies are centered around Halloween! Think "Halloween Town," "Hocus Pocus," "Scream," and "Friday the 13th." Even television series will go through and make special Halloween episodes just to change it up and give you a little fright!

7. You get to stock up on candy!

I think everyone has a little sweet tooth inside of them, and what better way to let it loose than going out and eating all the candy humanly possible, for free.

8. Haunted houses, scary stories, corn mazes, the real Walking Dead...

There is such a variety of things to do for this season that everyone can find something they enjoy doing.

9. It brings back memories!

I think as we get older, Halloween is one of those holidays that shows our growth throughout the years. We go from not remembering our first Halloween, to trick or treating, to agonizing about what costume to get, to going to Halloween parties, and to sometimes not celebrating at all. I think celebrating this holiday is so important because it reminds you that you can still be a kid again!

10. No year is ever really the same.

Think about it, new year, new costume! So many things change each year whether it be the costume, decorations, or candy. You never know what's going to happen! That's why I try to do as many Halloween activities as I can. There is a simple beauty in change sometimes, and you have to embrace it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
