Why I Chose Northern Arizona University
Heavy

My university is small and diverse, which is what I looked for in a university when I applied. Northern Arizona is located in Flagstaff, AZ, a small town in seven thousand feet elevation. Coming from a town under one thousand feet in elevation was very different for me. Breathing is difficult when completing a simple task such as exercising and walking to class. My skin has changed dramatically as well. Our university is known for the sciences and business. Lastly, we also offer many extended campuses throughout the state of Arizona.

I was accepted into twenty-two universities throughout the nation, received over $100,000+ in academic scholarships and was interviewed by Princeton University and Harvard University. However, I chose NAU. Why did I choose NAU? I chose this university because I wanted a change. I grew up in California my entire life. Although I have traveled to different states and countries while growing up, this influenced my decision to apply to universities out of state. I wanted to ‘get away’ and see what was out there for me. I wanted to grow and mature while hundreds of miles away from my parents. Although I miss them greatly, I had to go away for me, to adventure, to grow and to meet people that I hope will be in my life forever.

California tuition is extremely expensive. I did receive academic scholarships, however, I would still have to pay out of pocket for housing, meals, and other expenses. Furthermore, it was inexpensive for me to attend a university out of state than in state. College is expensive regardless but I am glad I could attend a university out of state since this was a goal of mine.

I encourage many to attend a university outside of their comfort zone. A person at my

high school received admission to Stanford University and Harvard University, however, he turned down Harvard because of the fear of leaving California, home to most of us. Holding yourself back from such an opportunity is ridiculous to me because of the fear of leaving a place you have known your whole life. This is why I went out of state. I jumped at the opportunity when I had it, and I have no rejects, only blessings.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
