(Pyongyang) North Korean state media is reporting that at least 15 of the 23 unicorns found in the tomb of an ancient Korean king have died. These deaths include that of the fabled, unnamed unicorn which King Tongmyong was alleged to have ridden into battle.
Earlier this year, North Korean archeologists discovered the unicorn lair via a carved tablet with the words "Unicorn Lair" inscribed inside King Tongmyong's tomb.
"This is a very sad day for all of North Korea," said a high-ranking researcher from the Academy of Social Sciences at North Korea's History Institute, who asked to have his identity concealed out of grief. "We have lost 15 national treasures and we will launch a full investigation into their deaths." This particular researcher was part of the team that originally discovered the unicorn den.
Some politicians and civilians have speculated that the deaths were due to poisoning, an act of sabotage by South Korean, American, and Anti-Communist agents who are trying to undermine the history and status of North Korea as a world power.
