In today's society, there is a huge focus on sex in romantic situations. Whether you're hooking up, in a long-term relationship, or a short-term relationship, sex is a defining thing a majority of the time. On top of sex becoming this driving force in relationships, it's also become an expectation for holidays such as birthdays and, yes, especially Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day has become not only the day of chocolate and romance, but overall just sexual tendencies acted out because it's "Valentine's Day." Heck, it's even the day to have some of the best sex of the year. But for those of us who aren't all about sex, it gets a little complicated. Sure, sex is cool and an intimate moment between two people, but Valentine's Day should also be expressing love in every way possible. Sex doesn't have to be the biggest part of the relationship or ultimately expected on Valentine's Day.

If you're not one rolling around under the sheets, here are some things you can do instead.

1. See a movie

It's an obvious one. It doesn't even need to be a romantic one. If you and your date want to see "Maze Runner," go see it!

2. Make heart-shaped food together

A heart-shaped pizza or cookie not only looks romantic, but it'll taste delicious.

3. Homemade candlelit dinner

Nothing says romantic like dimming the lights and eating a homecooked meal next to the candlelight.

4. Karaoke

Although karaoke is embarrassing for some people, it is a fun time out. And who knows? Maybe you can sing a duet.

5. Go to an arcade

Video games are always fun. There's plenty of exciting games to play together, whether you're working together or against each other is up to you.

6. Recreate your first Valentines Day

For those who have been in a relationship for a while, it would surprise your partner to recreate your first Valentine's date together (to the best of your ability, of course).

7. Go to your favorite restaurant

8. Send your partner on a scavenger hunt

The treasure is up to you. Is it a box of chocolates? A dozen roses? A poem?

9. Netflix and actually chill

10. Have a picnic

Another variation of food: have a picnic! Whether it's a chilly day or a lovely 60 degrees day, a picnic is always an interesting thing to do. If it's nice out, pack some sandwiches and throw that blanket down in your favorite outdoor spot. If its 20 degrees and snowing, try an indoor picnic. Lay out the blanket on the living room floor and create a picnic all the same. But instead of the listening to the great outdoors, maybe throw pandora on.

11. Go for a drive

Going for a drive on the open road with the music blasting is an adventure in itself. The destination is entirely up to you, but the road to get there is your journey. Take a drive wherever you want and enjoy the tip. Whether you're taking the car out just to look at the stars or you have a destination in mind, driving together is another way to bring you closer together through music choices and conversation.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
