I have a message to all those people who have judged, made fun of, and even criticized those who chose to be in a relationship in college. Stop saying it’s the worst thing in the world, stop saying that being in a relationship in college prevents you from ‘having fun’ and stop saying that college is all about ‘playing the field.' Having a boyfriend in college has never stopped me from having fun, in fact it has made my experience as a college student one of the best. However, I have come up with 10 reasons why having a boyfriend in college is the way to go and being single was so last season.
1. Your boyfriend make the best study buddie.
It is easy and fun to help each other study. Whether it's quizzing each other on the material, or helping you write a paper, they are always there to help you succeed, plus if your partner is anything like my boyfriend, they will make sure that you know all the material for your exam. Lastly, you always have someone to be proud of you when you do well on an exam.
2. You always have someone to gossip with.
If there’s something I’ve learned by being in a relationship it's that boys love to gossip as much as girls do, but hate admitting it. My boyfriend is the best person to come home to and vent about the drama that goes on in the life of a college girl. I always know that what is said between my boyfriend and I stays between my boyfriend and I.
3. You always have someone that helps you stay on track with your goals and dreams.
When you feel overwhelmed, when you're so stressed and feel as though no matter how hard you study it's still impossible to pass that class, your boyfriend is there to help motivate you and push you to be the best you can be. They are there to help you stay focused on your goals, even when times get hard. They are there to remind you that one day all of your hard work and frustration will soon be worth it.
4. You always have someone to buy you drinks.
Whether it's a dinner date or happy hour, my boyfriend always makes sure I am well hydrated. And I think we can all agree that there is nothing better than free drinks.
5. My boyfriend is my knight in shining armor.
We can all admit that sometimes we have those nights where we drink a tad too much and put ourselves in sticky situations. There is no one I trust more to keep me safe, hold my hair, and feed me McDonalds during a crazy night than my boyfriend.
6. You never have to worry about finding a gym partner.
Having a boyfriend means having a free personal trainer, even if you don’t want one. Lets face it, there is nothing guys love more than working out. And the way I see it, you get to work out and get your summer body on AND spend time with your boyfriend. It's a win-win situation.
7. You never have to worry about finding a formal, or social date.
Having a boyfriend means never EVER having to worry about finding a date to formal. Seeing some of my sisters stress about who they're taking to formal is not a pretty picture, and I am extremely grateful that I never have to go through that.
8. He is my best friend and my person.
Don’t get me wrong, my sisters are my best friends and the ones I can always turn to, but my boyfriend is a different type of best friend. He laughs at my jokes even when they're not funny. When I am having a bad day, he knows that chocolate and an Angry Orchard are the way to my heart. He is the easiest person to talk to about anything and everything. He has seen me at lowest and at my highest, but most importantly he loves me unconditionally.
9. He is my biggest motivation and my inspiration.
We can all agree that college is no walk in the park. Seeing my boyfriend succeed inspires me to keep working hard. He motivates me to be the best that I can be, whether it’s pushing me to do my best in school or being on the sidelines of every intramural soccer game. He is always there to cheer me on.
10. You have a personal chef at all hours of the day.
Breakfast, lunch or a midnight snack, my boyfriend knows what he’s doing in the kitchen. One of my favorite things about my boyfriend is our mutual love for food. After all, he knows that food is the way to my heart (along with Angry Orchard).
