As a Black woman in America, it is hard to go on and go by watching continuous events of police brutality involving an innocent Black person. Not only has this affected me, but it has affected the entire Black community. Black people are immediately a target because of our skin which is a problem. We didn't ask to be Black. We didn't ask to be born Black. It was given to us. It was given to us as a representation of strong, powerful, beautiful, and so much more. How can something so strong, powerful, and beautiful, continue to keep getting killed? Keep getting killed by non-Black police officers. In a world in which we are living in a pandemic, why am I still a target? Is it my hair? Is it the way I dress? Is it the way I talk? Why am I a threat to the police force? Why does my skin make you uncomfortable?
Police brutality has been an ongoing issue in the United States for years now, but it has finally reached its climax after the deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd. Other victims have been involved in police brutality force, but ever since the recent killings of both Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, it caused the world to finally stand up and fight back. How can people who swear to "protect us", kill us? Are they really just "doing their job"? Or are they just trying to take us out one by one? There hasn't been any solutions, reform, or any new law implementation for the police force since these recent events have happened. This is what shines more light on the Black Lives Matter Movement. BLM movement is not a trend, it's not a platform where you can make a joke about it. These are people's lives. This is my life and these are the people I have to protect because who will? I do not want to have to worry about waking up and becoming another hashtag. I don't want any of my family members to become a hashtag. We need a solution and after all these protests around the nation, we still don't have one. Black people are the most disadvantaged people. We have to work extra harder. We have to go above the maximum just to be recognized. We have to put in extra effort just to prove we are smart and educated vs the white man. History is truly repeating itself if you have observed closely of the events and it should not be that way!
Using your voice, signing petitions, donating, and speaking up are all ways you can help in this issue. Even though we are in a pandemic, a little really does go a long way when demanding solutions. We deserve better treatment and we deserve justice not only for the lives we have lost but for the lives we need to protect that are currently still living. To any and all police officers, we expect better, we expect change, and we expect justice. One person can make a big change especially if they have the opportunity to. We all have freedom of speech and we should not be silent about this issue. It is too important especially in modern-day society to stick up for anybody and everybody that is continuously being targeted. Just because there are police officers with the title, badge, and gun, does not mean they are superior over a regular citizen walking down the street to go get a pack of Skittles from the store. We all bleed the same color of blood. United we STAND! Divided we FALL!
