Hey Readers!
I wrote this poem to remind those who need it: being different is never overrated if you stay true to you. It can be easy to follow the trend and feel you need to be a part of the same thing as everyone around you. There may be a bit of cliché in my words, but I say them because it's true: own who you are and feel no need to be anyone else. I can't speak for anyone's individual journey, but just know there is no other that can be you. I hope this encourages you today!
When I believe in myself,
I can do anything
When I believe what I am,
I can see possibility
But when I try to be someone else,
I lose my originality
In this world influenced by copies,
Could I ever stand out?
It always seems people
Try to follow a bigger crowd
More is never enough
Less is bare minimum
How can I be myself
When it seems so distant?
And then, I think of all the times
I overcame and never faltered
My difference made the difference
Between leader and follower
It was that moment when
I felt so small
When I thought I was nothing at all
That my uniqueness deepened my love
Of myself and what it was
In this world influenced by likeness,
How can I keep it all aligned?
It wasn't wrong or
Failed with time
And then, I recalled memories of
Telling myself, 'we don't fit.'
Indeed, but we never were meant to
We had to step away and be
Exactly what compels us
To be unusual but ourselves
So many times,
I counted those moments
Where being 'me' was hard
To love
To trust
But now,
We've loved and trusted
Who stares back at us in the mirror
Because in this world influenced by popularity
And muchness
I am simply who I want to be
That, in itself,
Is never too much
For I am best when I am
Me, myself
That is never too much
It's all I ever need
To be
