Fellow Terps, I'm sure you've heard many of these before, but maybe you haven't. And what kind of person would I be if I let you graduate without completing the definitive University of Maryland bucket list?
Rising seniors, get crackin’. Only one more year to make what could, potentially, be some of the funniest and best memories in your time here at Maryland.
1. Swim in the fountain on McKeldin Mall. This one’s pretty standard, and pretty
easy. Most people accomplish it in the beginning or the end of the year
when it’s hot enough that it actually seems appealing. Needless to say,
these excursions usually take place around 3 a.m.
2. Sneak into Byrd Stadium at night. Try not to get caught. It ruins the
whole excitement of the thing.
3. Complete a bar crawl from every bar in the area. This includes Looney’s, Terrapin’s Turf, Big
Play, Cornerstone, Bentley’s and the like. If you remember your senior bar crawl,
you didn’t do it right.
4. Hook up in the stacks at McKeldin. Just hope no one walks in on you while
searching for a rare book for their term paper that for some reason doesn’t
exist online.
5. Get quoted in the Diamondback. Your name… in a newspaper? Better grab 50
copies (and sign them all) just in case you become famous one day and people
want to track down your first press interview.
6. Make a sacrifice to Testudo during finals week. And I’m not just talking your leftover Chipotle
(okay, leftover Chipotle doesn’t exist). I’m talking big. Last
semester someone left a toilet, a water fountain and a giant statue. I want to
see more offerings like that. I bet they all got 4.0s, too.
7. Camp out to get basketball tickets. Although we won’t be able to camp out for Duke
tickets, anymore, and we'll have a new big rival to camp out for, I’ll still hate
them forever.
8. Finish one of the giant Adele’s sundaes. Hey, I never said you have to do it alone.
But you get to keep the trough the ice cream comes in, and who can resist a
free giant glass bowl?
9. Make it to graduation. While these will probably be some of
the best four years of our lives, especially since we go to the greatest school
on earth, there is a point to us being here.
