When One Direction announced their year-long hiatus, fans never imagined that a few of the boys from the band would pursue solo careers during their break. Yet, on September 29, 1D member Niall Horan dropped his first single "This Town." With no heads up or promotion proceeding the release, Niall pleasantly surprised fans and gave them something to devour as they eagerly await One Direction's return.
Niall's song, "This Town," took iTunes charts by storm and within just a few hours it was quickly at number one. The guitar ballad
"If the whole world was watching I’d still dance with you / Drive highways and byways to be there with you / Over and over the only truth / Everything comes back to you," are just a few of the lyrics he sings.
With the release of "This Town" also came the announcement that Niall signed a solo deal with Capitol Records. He said in a statement, "Thank you to all the One Direction fans for your love and support as always. I’m looking forward to the next part of this journey together.”
Many fans expressed in the past during One Direction's journey how they wanted Niall to have more solos on the albums and while he did get more as time went on, this was ultimately the icing on the cake that the fans have always dreamed of. Fans are beyond delighted to hear him shine on his first solo song and are excited to see what is in store for him in the future.
While "This Town" might just be a glimpse of what is to come for Niall's solo career, Capitol Records did not confirm nor deny whether or not there will be a future album release in its entirety. However, fans appear to be more than content to just hear one of their favorite singers release new music. Niall also seems to be excited about his future music plans and took to twitter to express his gratitude in regards to the fans' responses, he tweeted:
