For The Next Time You Feel A Little Lost

Remember, you're just figuring out your next move.

For The Next Time You Feel A Little Lost
Giovanna Loccisano/Jasmine Shah

Freshman still undecided about your major? Senior who doesn't know what they're going to do after graduation? Out of school, working, fighting to figure it all out? Just went through a break up? Got an F? Feeling like everything is crumbling down? Or, maybe, somewhere in between?

It's ok, we all feel it. We all get that ache of curiosity, of fear, of the unexpected. Sometimes, we feel most the things we cannot control in and around our lives. It's ok.

Feeling the weight of too many options? Of not enough of them?

I know. Me too.

One day, though, a realization came: I am not lost.

I'm here. Every second, I am here. I may not know exactly where I am going or what will happen but I am still here, still fighting, still moving toward a future - MY FUTURE. I am not lost. I'm simply moving forward and making choices each and every single day.

I can decide to be afraid of it or I can embrace the day, the moment. I can be present and conscious - I can be right where I am meant to be in that second. I can figure out the rest as it comes. Wave after wave, I can figure it out as I go, for the most part.

I'm a strong, independent, intelligent woman in the year 2016. The entire world of options lays before me. I am not lost. I am simply in the process of discovering where, what, and who I am meant to be - what I am destined to do with my life.

Maybe there's no such thing as being truly lost. Maybe it can simply be summed up as a creation of our minds, our perceptions of the world in the moment we are currently a part of.

Every single day is a choice. We create the rest of our path with the stepping stones we decide to use as footholds. We decide. Every single second, we decide.

How and what you decide may change everything, but do it for you, for yourself in a week, for yourself in 10 years.

You may not be able to control the rest of your life. You may feel lost, wandering. You are far from helpless. Each day leads to the next. Each step, each choice, each thought pushes toward the next.

Believe me when I say, you are not lost. You're simply on your way to finding what the next decision, the next opportunity, will be.

So, when you think you're lost, know you aren't. Know that you have the power, in that moment, to create the next. You are in control.

Just because you can't control what life will throw at you doesn't mean you can't control how you react, how you channel it.

Next time you think you're feeling lost, remember, you're just figuring out your next move.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
