Tired of listening to the same songs on your iPod that you’ve been listening to since forever ago? Have you noticed that the songs you and your friends used to jam out to in the car are now becoming the songs you skip over to get to the next one? No need to worry, the next big thing is here. The Wild Feathers, based in Nashville, Tenn., are on the way toward becoming one of the top names in the country-rock genre.
The group consists of five equally vital members: Ricky Young (acoustic guitar/vocals), Joel King (bass/vocals), Taylor Burns (electric guitar/vocals), Preston Wimberly (lead guitar), and Ben Dumas (drums). Notice that no member of the band was listed as being the lead vocalist. One unique quality The Wild Feathers possess is their ability to be versatile, as the four frontmen were all lead singers of their own groups before joining together to form this band. Each member had their own distinct sound before joining The Wild Feathers, but they came together to create a groovy rock, blues, folk, country sound for their listeners to gravitate toward and appreciate.
This aspect of the group translates into their songwriting. During the songwriting process, each member of the group will bring his own style of song to the table for the rest of the band to listen to, critique, and work on, hoping to make it into something great. This was evident in the band’s debut album, the self-titled “The Wild Feathers,” released in the fall of 2013.
The band’s first album took longer than expected to produce and release, but all the hard work was well worth it. The album featured multiple hits that highlight the innovative tendencies of the group members that they use to make a more modern sound influenced by the old country outlaws such as Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Hank Williams. Their innovation worked as opportunities for The Wild Feathers to promote their brand started coming from every direction. The continued hard work of the band led them to open for world-famous, legendary acts such as Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson -- a dream come true for any aspiring musician.
The band kept their “tall boots” on, touring all across the nation, promoting their record to as many people as possible. Maybe one of the most memorable shows for the band was at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in 2014 as fans waited up to four hours in advance for the group to take the stage. Just like every show for the group, the energy was thrown in the audience’s face from start to finish. The cool thing about this band is the camaraderie seen between the members both on and off the stage. They act as if they’re brothers, something that is important to all of them. One thing this band wants is to keep their families involved in the process of their journey in furthering their careers in the music industry. They make it evident, they never forget their roots and all the people who have helped them along the way.
The Wild Feathers are currently working on their second album to be released this year. You can check out their released single titled, “Happy Again" here:
