Coming from somebody who has never seen "American Horror Story," or AHS, before, I was pretty optimistic about it. Many people love American Horror Story, and many seasons are available on Netflix. A couple friends have raved to me about it, praising how amazing it is so last night I decided to give it a chance. And let me just say, I was horrified (no pun intended). WARNING: THIS REVIEW OF "AMERICAN HORROR STORY" THIS WEEK CONTAINS SPOILERS.
Here's a quick run down of what I saw on "American Horror Story": sex, blood, violence, and creepiness. Just a disclaimer for those who love AHS: I am not dissing it at all, and I know that it is just part of the show. I'm the kind of girl that gets a little freaked out when it comes to blood though, and there was a lot of that!
The Good Points: Although I've never seen the show, my friends were talking about how all of the seasons were connected somehow. I also kind of liked the creepiness factor of the show (even though I did not like the blood). One of the opening scenes featured a scary looking little girl down a hotel hallway, which honestly kind of reminded me of the scary movie, "The Shining." A little later on, I was kind of shocked to see a woman and a man who were glued together at the genitals, and the woman was speared through her torso, and the man had his tongue and his eyes gauged out. Being a "Law and Order: SVU" fan, it kind of reminded me of a "Law and Order" scene on steroids. There was a lot of creepiness and mystery, and I especially enjoyed the drama between the police officer and his daughter Scarlet, and his missing son Holden.
The Bad Points: Although I am not your typical AHS fan, I am an avid Vine watcher, and I have seen many Vines or short clips from AHS before. Here's a question to all regular AHS fans: WHERE WAS EVAN PETERS? I had high expectations that I would be seeing Evan, and those expectations were not met. Also, like I mentioned before, the throat slashing of the couple who was having a foursome with Lady Gaga and her man was definitely a little gruesome for my tastes (I almost spit out my hot chocolate).
Final thoughts: American Horror Story really is an interesting show and I can see why people like it, but it just wasn't for me. I guess I'm just not an AHS type of girls (I'll stick to "Dance Moms" and other reality TV, thanks). In a room full of my friends who all love AHS, I felt like this:
