New Year's Resolutions are the hackneyed and oftentimes pitfalls for trying to make a positive change in your life. Most people can't stick to their New Year's Resolutions because they are too grand or too limiting. Lose 50 pounds by summer. Save $5,000.
While these are great goals to achieve, putting such hard limits on yourself is actually setting yourself up for failure. Instead of putting a deadline or a number, try to strive for more open-ended goals. Here are few easy ones that everyone can get behind.
1. Eat less red meat
Not only is eating too much red meat not necessarily good for you, eating less red meat can actually reduce your carbon footprint and help combat climate change. I highly recommend watching Leonardo DiCaprio's movie "Before the Flood" if you want to learn more.
2. Take shorter showers
I'm sure everyone at some point in their lives has been guilty of standing around in the shower not necessarily doing anything. Try to be more conscious of the amount of time your spending in the shower and conserve water.
3. Turn off the lights when you leave a room
Another great way to help the environment is to make sure you're turning the lights off after leaving a room. You'll conserve energy and save money on your electric bill.
4. Drink more water
Honestly, it is amazing how beneficial drinking more water is for you; clearer skin, stronger nails, better digestive system. If you don't drink that more water daily, try drinking a few more glasses a day and you will instantly notice how much better you feel.
5. Spend less on unnecessary things
I put this one because I know I am guilty of spending money on countless things I don't need and only use a couple times. Instead of buying that Sephora face mask, try putting that money away into savings. You'll thank yourself later.
These are just a few examples of open-ended resolutions that you could commit to in 2017. Before making a resolution, it's always good to look at what you really want to work on and change or even improve in 2017. The key to a great resolution is a positive attitude.
