Over the years, I have accumulated so much paper and notes and documents that have over time been the sole reason why I have no room and so much stuff to move around. So this year, I made it my top priority to make sure that moving into the new year was easy and stress-free…. meaning I must clear out of my life.
Idea
After viewing some Vlogs I realized that being minimal and having the minimalist mindset comes across as sturdy, reliable and stress-free
Closet
First I started with my closet, I looked at my closet about 30 times ( literally) to see what it was that I actually needed. After going through it more than once, I finally came out with a bucket of nonsense that I could sell to Plato's Closet for some extra cash. I highly recommend that if your clothes are in good shape ( sell them there)! I don't always donate my stuff for a good cause unless it's depleted and or not really in style.
After starting with the closet, I then went on to the shoes! I'm such a materialistic person, I love clothes and shoes. I probably went through the shoes a couple of times. I had to fight with my inner self about why I had to give them up. I just couldn't give them up… So I eventually narrowed it down to the shoes I needed to wear versus the ones that were for style - the other ones that I didn't really wear went into the Plato's bin. I ended up leaving Plato's with over $100 to use as play money.
Extras
I started working on my date party T-shirts...but I didn't throw those away. I just simply hung up all 73 shirts and put them in a separate compartment. As many of you Greeks know who accumulate date party shirts, You get more than you chip off. From your own organization to someone else's, or the freebies that your school gives out! It can become pretty difficult to have them all in a box. PLUS, it makes it much much easier to wear all of them respectively. Once I did that - I went to the left over bin and got rid of ALL the unnecessary shirts that caused more trouble in my life… and narrowed it down to shirts I use for dance and shirts that I will wear around the house.
Space
Once I got to this portion I then realize that I was beginning to feel a bit more lighter, my room was a lot less cluttered and I was therefore happier, because I didn't feel trapped by own belongings. That meant more room to store stuff. Once I had more room, I saw more opportunities for better things that benefitted me. Like a small stand to sit my Keurig on for my fast paced mornings!! And some fruit and healthy snacks to kickstart my day.
Desk
I then reached my desk.. Ahh my desk. I don't really know why I have the desk because I don't really use it! But I basically just threw away a lot of old stuff that I didn't really need. I decorated it with pictures and quotes that made me feel inspired about my life. I pulled out old memories and taped them on the desk… After going through all of that I realized that less is actually more…. (let that sink in) For some reason my naive mind just thought that more is more and I needed more. But sometimes you can say more with less…..
The next thing that I'm working on right now is putting up my goals in a visual place so that I can visually see them.. when I am just lollygagging in my room. A vlog that I follow on YouTube posts his goals on his wall so that when he wakes up he's able to see them and meditate on those goals. So this week, I'm going to write all my goals down for this semester and work to achieve them, and I encourage all my viewers to do the same. Even if it's just one thing a week, it really does work.
Overview
Do what's best for you, and most convenient for your life. If that means deleting friends, standing your ground or really going for goals and dreams, do it! Just like a diet, your body starts to react to the new way of eating. Friends are the same way, you may lose some in the process! But your life will be much much more calm and simple. No one should ever be around people that are negative and badgering always be around people that are uplifting and supportive of you and your life.
New Year, New Me!
