Here's To The New Year
Aless Fermin

The new year is finally among us and hopefully it's an amazing year for everyone. Last year was a very difficult year, both personally and in terms of a lot of the events that took place around the world. We had a lot of deaths this year, a lot of big people passed away in the entertainment world that we might have seen growing up. It was another election year, which was filled with hateful rhetoric and just all around terrible things being said.

But personally, I think this year was tough for me because I’ve grown as a person. I graduated high school, started college and joined a sorority. Things have changed and while doing these things might not be crazy, they definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone.

Last year was difficult, I had a lot of stress and I worked really hard to accustom myself to my changing life. I got a new job, at a new place but with the same company. I have gotten older and I try to enjoy my time as it goes along. I had one of the best summers at camp that I've ever had and I've learned how to work in situations that make me extremely uncomfortable. I've gotten rid of bad relationships, both friends and significant others.

As for 2017, I'm excited for what's to come. I'm hoping for new relationships and better ones! I would like to progress as a person. I hope that I get my learner's permit and learn to drive; not that I have a car yet but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I do hope to actually build up the courage to get the tattoo that I want (let's hope).

I hope to travel more! This year I traveled to London for winter break; it was completely random to visit my friend. It was one of the best I've ever had. I had the opportunity to learn new things, get to know new people, tried new foods and saw new places.

For the new year, I want to live randomly. I want to be more spontaneous. I want to manage my time better. I also want to learn to balance my schedule during the school season, so that my job and school workload don't both make me want to explode.

I hope everyone has some resolutions ready and I hope they stick to them. I hope 2017 is an amazing year! I hope you spend New Year's Eve with your family and loved ones.

Here's to new adventures, new love and to loving yourself!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
