2015 is coming to a close and 2016 is right around the corner. Since it is almost New Year's Eve, like most, I am beginning to come up with a list of resolutions for myself. I wanted to share my list of resolutions with you, and hopefully inspire your list.
1. Learn to accept the things I cannot change.
Those who know me well know I am a hard-headed individual. I am stubborn as hell and want things to go the way I plan. But in life you cannot control everything. I venture to say you cannot control almost half of the things that occur in your life. In 2016, I want to work on learning to accept the things I cannot change. I am not God and I don't control everything. Sometimes in life things will not go my way, and instead of getting anxious or worked up over them, I need to focus on directing my time and energy towards the things I can change.
2. Continue to find a way to at least semi-enjoy fitness.
A few years ago I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). One of the side effects of PCOS is that it is a lot harder to lose weight. Even knowing I had PCOS, I was always quick to give up on working out because I was not seeing results fast enough and it would cause me to get frustrated and self-concious of my body. I recently found a little fitness place in my neighborhood where I actually enjoy working out and the owner and instructors keep me motivated. In the new year, I plan on continuing there and focusing on doing fitness for my health and not for the way I look. When you focus on your health rather than on what size you are, you tend to lose the weight/maintain a healthier lifestyle because you are not obsessing over the scale.3. Get involved.
I love being involved with organizations or particiating in activities ... when I am there. I truly struggle with the introduction part because I become extremely shy and self-concious. I worry about who's going to be there, what if I mess up, etc. It is like a million thoughts running through my head. But in the past, whenever I do get involved, I 99.9 percent of the time end up enjoying it. In the new year, I want to commit to doing new things, joining different organizations or opportunities, and getting involved. You never know how you will feel about something until you are there, in the moment, experiencing it. Chances are, you will end up having fun and if not, you never have to do it again!4. Tame the beast: anxiety.
Everyone gets stressed. I don't care who you are. You can be the richest or the poorest person on earth, either way, you are going to experience stress. I tend to get stressed out very easily because I battle anxiety. But in the new year I want to work on how I handle it. At the end of the day, I cannot ignore it or erase it (I wish I could!) so I want to find ways to "tame" it with productive methods. One method that currently works for me is prayer. I enjoy going to mass by myself or praying in adoration because it is my quiet time to meditate on my faith and get a fresh perspective. In 2016, I am committed to using the various methods I have researched to maintain my stress.5. Focus on me.
This may seem like a selfish resolution, but you'll see it's not (let me explain). In life, we tend to be people pleasers, constantly craving others' approval. In that process, we can lose ourselves. When we are draining ourselves and going one hundred miles an hour, we tend to tire ourselves out. It is important to remember to take time for yourself. Whether it is going to mass, reading a book, or just going for a 30-minute workout, anything that eases your mind and gives you a chance to relax. Another factor to this resolution of mine for the new year is doing things for you! This includes, dedicating yourself to your major or working at a job you love. For me, this means continuing to grow my fashion and lifestyle blog and to focus on my studies so I can gain the most out of my education, so I can go on to find my dream job.So what are your New Year 2016 resolutions? I hope this list inspired you and has you adding or creating your very own list of resolutions. I wish you a very happy new year 2016, filled with love, blessings, and health. Cheers!
