Ringing in the new year calls for a handful of resolutions that will slowly die with the rest of our past year intentions. As the days grow farther and farther from January 1st, one by one they will slowly dissolve and are most likely never be seen again, until maybe next year. This sad truth applies to mostly all of the human race, however for the selected few that break through the norm, I applaud you.
For me, I saved my breath and went into the new year with a different mentality. I knew I wasn't going to stick to my guns and get my workout on every day or count my calories to a T, so I didn't make a new years resolution. But, what I did make was a mental note, to clear my mind each day. As easy as this sounds, it's not—to wake up and put aside everything that had happened the previous day is not an easy task. Though it sure has made a difference, we are currently eight days into the new year and I can already tell it’s going to be a bumpy one, but there is no such thing as a road with no bumps.
So, “For what it’s worth: It’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start over,” this quote by F. Scott Fitzgerald put things into perspective for me. And with that I ask of you each day to do this, to start over, because we don't need confetti or kazoos to mark the start of a new you, all you need is you.
Although inevitably with a new year, comes new problems, new obstacles and hurdles that will be unknowingly placed in the happiest corners of your life and then you are expected to deal with them. While on top of that dealing with school, family, work and friends it's almost impossible for things to run smoothly at all times. However when it does, and all things seem to be content, appreciate that, because nothing last forever, "Don't be pushed by your problems, be lead by your dreams" (unknown).
New years resolutions are a truly silly ordeal, personally, this idea was made up hundreds of years ago and seemed to catch on and is now part of the norm. So, if you've made a new years resolution or not, congratulation you've still made it to the new year, resolution or not. But here's a thought to tinker with while you're eating that second piece of cake or on your morning run. If what you're doing is what you love, or makes you smile, do it. Because there are only 24 hours in the day, that's actually not a lot, but used wisely, can be more than enough. Happy New Year to all, to those who have been blessed to make it and to those who's lives were cut short and were unable, make your days worth something.
